What sort of rage is unleashed if Olsen isn't retained?

Lol we hate this team for keeping players too often. Now the GM is getting crucified for letting players go. This fanbase can be laughable at times.

Gettleman is the opposite of Hurney but not really in a good way,Hurney was too loyal to players, even when their production went south,Gettleman gets rid of the most productive players but doesn't replace them w/anybody just as talented or even being close to talented!

The biggest difference between last years team and this years team is Jordan Gross retiring. Not Steve Smith, who is clearly slowing down now in Baltimore, not Tedd Ginn, who has been a joke Arizona, not Mike Mitchell who has poo the bed in Pittsburgh. The biggest impact was the one Gettleman had no control over.

giving guys like ginn, mitchell, munnerlyn, and others way more than they're worth to stay in carolina is exactly what somebody like marty hurney would do.  say what you will about humpty dumpty but he's not lacking in the balls department.

truth is there are teams all around the league that are successful and run by guys like gettleman.  our GM doesn't have the benefit of having been in place for years and, as such, several drafts and FA periods to build his team the way he wants.

hell even a team like baltimore run by a guy in ozzie newsome who's widely considered one of the best GMs in football had their share of losing seasons/one and done playoff appearances early in his tenure.  the packers had back to back losing seasons in ted thompson's first two seasons iirc as well.

e: correction the packers had back to back non-winning seasons at the beginning of thompson's tenure.  they went 8-8 in 2006.

You know Smitty was like a son to JR right ?

TJ, Heart Surgery, JRs private Plane. Olsen will accept a team friendly deal and is a classy guy that represents the Panthers well. As much as we all love Smitty, we know 89 was a "Me First" guy. Not sure if the two situations can be compared.

I'm guessing there would be a lot of all caps posting, multiple exclamation points, and attempts to cuss around the filter. There would be some people outraged enough to show up with picket signs at the stadium although they would never lift a finger over an actual atrocity.

Is that about right?

I don't think Greg asks for a rediculous contract, honestly.  I think he stays with a fair one.

TD on the other hand..... I love the guy, he's a beast, but he's definitely overpaid that one year.  Before this season I was sure he'd restructure or something but now, afer this season, not so sure he's be as inclined.

wanna know something else?

thomas davis' cap hit is about to be $9.9 million in 2015

$7.5 million in cap savings if he's a post-june 1 cut

get your pitchforks ready

There is a difference in cutting guys who aren't productive or even cutting guys who are moderately productive (see CJ). But cutting a guy who is playing as well or better than any other player at his position to save some cap would be idiotic.

So you would keep him no matter what his cap cost was? What if you could replace his production for less then what you save by cutting him. You could then allocate those resources to improve another position.

i totally get this and i have no desire whatsoever to see thomas davis leave.  he's everything the steve smith sycophants on this site claim smitty was to this team and more.

someone pointed out that all of his post-2015 years are voidable (they're cheap "dummy" years) so it's likely he gets base salary converted to signing bonus and the cap hit is spread out over the remainder of the contract or some other accounting trick is put to use.

let's play devil's advocate though: if we were paying thomas davis almost $10 million next year to the detriment of getting some OL help people would be screaming
