Tom Coughlin revisited

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Yes.  Why would Coughlin want to take a reduced role in Carolina?  Like I said he has nothing left to prove.  He should just retire after the Giants finally put him out of his misery.

A front office job isn't a reduced role.  Technically his current job is a reduced role from what he had before.

not as HC

Check the OP again.

Not totally opposed to it, I just want someone other than Holmgren/Parcells/Coughlin whispering into the ear of our next HC.  Want to come in and work with DG on longterm outlooks for the Panthers....I'm cool, however I'm nervous about the "old NFL" guys and how they view the HC position.

I could be talked into it though.

As far as the head coach goes, if Rivera is gone I think there's a good possibility of Gary Kubiak getting another shot as a head coach with us.  That, or maybe Kyle Shanahan getting his first opportunity.  I would mind the influence of a guy like Coughlin on either of them.

No to being a HC. I do like the idea of having a winning (161-135 with 2 Super Bowls) HC in personal somewhere. I also like the idea of having someone that can sit down with The Gett Man and call him out on his BS without worrying about losing their job.

Colonel Coughlin demands respect and is a stern disclipinarian.just attend one of his team meetings two minutes early and fined out what happens.so this is not an ideal consultant for Rivera, imo, maybe Harbaugh but once again not Rivera.furthermore,i believe this would be more of a deterrent than to our advantage in regards to recuiting a possible HC such as Bevell.

meh. he's 70. no bias against 70-year-olds, but there has to be other guys out there that can do just as good of a job, or better.

He's up there, but this would be a less strenuous job than his current one.

Mind you, I'd love to get a guy like Marc Ross, but the Giants have already promoted him in an effort to keep him.  You might lure Ross with a title like Assistant GM (which I'd be okay with) but probably nothing less.

Either way, I think a couple of years of Coughlin's influence could be useful.

If you need to hire a coach to coach your head coach maybe you are barking up the wrong tree.

it's common for first time head coaches to hire an experienced head coach as a coordinator to help then learn the ropes.

And let's be honest, Rivera could use it (though I'd still rather he be let go).

Itt people don't read the op

T'would seem

Let's be clear folks.  We're not not NOT talking about Coughlin as a head coaching option.  This is about a front office or consulting role.

    • PJ's completion % was 63% when starting games in Carolina.  Which I believe is better than Bryce when starting.  And again, 4-3 as the starter here and the LONE QB Carolina has been able to actually win with in the Tepper era.  If you ask a gambling gunslinger to come into blowouts.....they are going to go down in a blaze of glory.  Which he would do.  Yeah, he isn't good.  And gunslingers are supposed to have rockier stats than checkdown QBs.   So....why does PJ Walker have a better comp % as a starter than Bryce Young.  And for every knock you want to make about PJ, you can find something or a skillset that PJ does better than Bryce.   I didn't say PJ had good field vision.  He doesn't.  Tell me about Bryce after he comes off the first read lol.  Let me repeat, PJ Walker is not a good QB.  He is NFL depth and an in house arm.  Bryce Young doesn't belong in a convo w/ Jake and Cam.  He belongs closer in a convo with the backup caliber QBs Carolina was forced into playing.  Which isn't just PJ Walker.  But Kyle Allen.  Moore.  Guys like that.
    • Oh I see what you meant by memory. I will trust my memory, I have looked a a lot of those ball charts for Bryce and they trend a general pattern. They thing that has changed that I have noticed more recently is the reduction in the bunching of behind or at  the LOS passes over to his right.  Aside from the quantity of throws recently since the running game has become a more dominant factor.
    • Yes but you basically said you are going from a quick skim of those charts without doing the same for Bryce and/or Andy. So you are going memory vs. snapshots. That's not going to be a very comprehensive analysis.
