Gary Kubiak

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't have a problem with Kubiak.  I'd certainly prefer him to some random DC promoted to HC so we can go through the headache of watching rookie coaching failures for 4 years straight.  And in regards to his middle of the road record as coach of the Texans, remember they had Charlie Casserly playing GM for them.  Charlie. Casserly.  They didn't exactly ooze talent, outside of Mario Williams and Andre Johnson.

Good point.

Nope, and Kubiak was actually better in his 1st stint.

I think he was like 59-53 plus a couple Playoff wins before everyone got hurt and he was fired mid-season the last year.

Foxy was 73-71 wasn't he?

I did an examination of all the current (non-Super Bowl winning) retreads getting head coaching buzz.  The best winning percentages of guys that coached more than one year (i.e. everybody but Hue Jackson) belonged to Jack Del Rio and Gary Kubiak.  Of those two, Kubiak had the better playoff percentage.

If Rivera goes away, the Panthers must make the right moves to maximize Cam Newton the rest of this decade.

Could make a pretty good argument a Kubiak / Dennison combo would do that.

I'm actually a fan of Kubiak's.

He's developed an explosive offense specifically based on the play of the offensive line.

Keep in mind that Baltimore gave a whopping 48 sacks last year (ranked 30th in the NFL). This year Baltimore has only given up 14 sacks (tied for 3rd) and 36 hits (tied for 4th). Baltimore was also dead last in average yards per carry last year, they're currently 8th.

Also Gettleman and Kubiak know each other due to their ties with the Broncos. Gettleman was a college scout while Kubiak was the OC.

Furthermore there is a chance that Kubiak would bring Alex Gibbs (from Morganton, NC) with him (the OL consultant for the Broncos) to coach our O-Line. Both Gibbs and Kubiak are big proponents of zone blocking which has helped their respective teams become some of the leagues best.

So you have potentially two guys coming in that coached two of the top five offensive lines in the league last year?!?!

Sign me up.

And Keep in mind here folks that the topic isn't really about who I want, per se. It's about who Dave Gettleman might want.

Gettleman worked with Kubiak, Dennison and Mike Shanahan for three of his four years in Denver. These are the guys that got him his first Super Bowl win.

Combine that with Kubiak being a hot head coaching name and you have some serious possibilities.

It would be interesting to see who Kubiak would bring with him to be the DC.

Everyone from his days with the Broncos and Texans was he either fired, they retired, or they're now coaching in the college ranks.

Steve Spagnuolo is the secondary coach in Baltimore, and obviously someone with whom Dave Gettleman would be quite familiar.

Mind you, he's also the guy who was an utter disaster as the Saints DC :(

But he also ran a Giants defense that stopped Tom Brady's Patriots from having an undefeated season.

The question becomes which stint was the real deal.

    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
    • How do I activate said Krispy Kreme deal? I'm stoned man you can't be playing with me about this...
    • When the broadcast showed the two benches side by side during the last TV timeout, it was pretty obvious the whole operation is a shitshow. If I was the owner, I would play that clip, with commentary, on the jumbotron at MSG as I fired the coach, GM, President, the whole lot. Bring in your AHL leadership team, wholesale, to finish out the season and start from scratch next year.  Can't fire all the players and fold the season. But, hopefully decapitating the zombie will light a fire under the body and burn out the cancer of the roster. (It makes sense if you don't think about it...) There are obviously issues on the roster. But, you can't have the entire coaching staff completely tuned out with 5 minutes left in a 2 goal game this early in the season. And you can't trust the people that hired them to hire the next staff. If you trust your AHL GM/Scouts, let them run the deadline firesale.   ...     Please don't let the owner read any of this. Because, this poo is hilarous!
