  1. 1. Should Gettleman be fired?

Recommended Posts

Kind of an offshoot to Zod's Rivera poll.

Like I said in another thread, for me it has been extremely difficult to separate Gettleman's failure with Ron Rivera's failure this year?  After all, it's not like G-man put his coach (or his franchise QB) in the best position to win. As far as I'm concerned, the Gettleman-fan honeymoon is over.

Say what you want about money---blah blah blah---but G-man's work since the end of last season has been at best a gamble, and at worst just very perplexing.  I suppose it's easy to be a Monday morning QB, but the problem is that a few key things that 95 percent of NFL types said would be a problem for us come this season actually were (are) big problems.

Personally, I am not saying that either Gettleman or RIvera should be fired due to the circumstances, but if either one or both are fired I am not going to cry about it.  Ironically they both took a while to land their respective positions, so there is that parallel.  Perhaps it's just part of the process of getting out from under Hurney magic.  If that was the case, I just wish that someone had been honest and defined this as a year of rebuilding. But, I digress.  G-man: up or down?

IMO....if you fire Ron. You have to fire Dave. The talent moves so clearly cost Ron and his staff. Put in a scrnario where they basically were suppose to fail.

But I don't see Dave being fired. Which means Ron stays. Enjoy.

Bc there is no way to fire Ron and not link his failures to the sudden and noticeble change in OL, WR, and secondary talent all at once....at the hands of our GM (or GMs if you insist)

Also, Dave is also the dude who just extended Ron....another poor Dave move.

So yeah, Ron and Dave stay.

Or Ron and Dave go.

Can't do one without the other....IMO....Ron did nothing but win more and more each year until he completely bent over this year and forced to take steps back in talent

Ron stays. They "revaluate" the coordinators. Once last hoorah....bring a rental OC and see what happens with Cam (who doesn't sign an extension)

I am of that opinion as well, but you know there is that fall guy thing.  Some blood is going to have to be spilled.  Does it rise to the level of Rivera?  I don't think so.

firing a GM after 1.5 years, when he's still only half way through cleaning up the previous mess, is fuggin short sighted and retarded.

I could make an argument that firing the Coach Of The Year after effectively tying his hands is shortsighted and retarded also. But at this point neither Rivera or G-man need defending in my book. Just perhaps another year to give us some clarity.

It's not a rebuilding year if the cheap moves you have to make pan out...............

Nope....not when his failures are so clearly linked to the new OL, WR and secondary the GM just gave him.

Ron stays another year....and either Ron and Cam stay or both go IMO. I don't see Cam wanting to blindly take an extension in this mess. He doesn't have to

He's drafted well and gone quite a ways in fixing what was an unholy cap mess.  Plus he got us a roster that got us to a 12-4 season even with Rivera coaching.

But yeah, fire him two years into the rebuild and start all over again.  Hell, why not?

No team that can rent a 13 million dollar DE for a season.....HAS to go as cheap as we did all over the place. Plus we didn't even go cheap....we went flat out bad at T.

    • Yeah this needs to happen ASAP. I don’t care if the price is lower. These Vikings fans on Twitter are absolutely insufferable. Acting like they have been world beaters for the last 60 years and thinking Carolina should just hand him over for nothing. We’ve had 7 or so tough seasons in a row and we have still been to two superbowls since they have and won more playoff games since 1995.    I hope Dan sends him to Detroit for a 2040 7th rounder and eats half the contract. Even Sheena is replying to them.
    • I hope your cath went well
    • So did the Panthers initiate this by making him "available for the right price" or was this something Thielen himself pushed for? I also never saw this quote he made about JJ McCarthy back in June. https://sports.yahoo.com/article/panthers-adam-thielen-both-asked-182711572.html Thielen believes McCarthy is built for big moments and will eventually show the world the skillset that won the Michigan Wolverines a national championship in 2023/2024. He even said McCarthy could be the “face of the league.” “I have high expectations for him. I've been able to be around a little bit through some of the time last summer... back in Minnesota, and I think he has the ability to be one of the great quarterbacks this season and the face of this league at some point. You know, I think he's got every tool and intangible that you can have,” Thielen said. “Obviously, it's a difficult league and it's not gonna just be easy, but I think he has the ability to handle adversity to be able to be big in big moments, as you saw when he was in college. I think he's got a great support staff around him, whether it be the coaches or the trainers.” Sounds like he's had one foot out the door for some time now.
