Why would Cam stay in Carolina?

I recently had a discussion with my Saints fan neighbor.  He asked why the Panthers haven't already signed Cam to a big contract extention like Kaepernick signed in San Fran or Dalton in Cincy.  I said "Because Cam isn't staying with the Panthers."

Why would Cam stay in Carolina?  The only reason is loyalty to the team that drafted him.  We all know how bad Cam wants to win.  Three out of his four seasons in Carolina have been awful losing seasons.  And little of it is his fault.  Cam can get the same money somewhere else and step onto a team that is lightyears ahead of Carolina in coaching and talent level.  He's guaranteed to be in Carolina one more season, maybe two if they use the franchise tag on him.  There will be teams LINING UP to make him HUGE MONEY offers once he hits free agency.  I'd be extremely surprised if he signed a new deal in Carolina and didn't at least test what options will be available to him.   He'd be an absolute fool not to entertain the idea of playing for someone else.  There are so many good teams that would be interested it's scary.  Here's a SHORT list:

Philadelphia: Can you imagine Cam in Chip Kelly's offense? They don't seem sold on either Foles or Sanchez and this could be a prime destination for Cam.

Dallas: Romo's back is due to give out any game now...Jerry Jones would break the bank for Cam.

Denver: How much longer will Manning play? Cam could keep them in contention for another 10 years.

Arizona: Palmer might come back next year if his injury heals but they need a QB of the future in the worst way. Great offensive coach and solid team all around.

Houston: Another solidly built team that just needs a QB to really take over. Cam went to JUCO at Blinn College near Houston...

And you can bet many other teams would at least give him a call.  The Panthers have one more season to change his mind.  I hope I'm wrong.

A few reasons off the top of my head:

Because he is close to family.

Because he already has many ties to the community.

Because the Panthers have the ability to keep him for several more years, even without a long term deal.

Because he has won here.

Because of other building blocks on the team.

Because Carolina will be out of cap hell soon.

I have heard of a lot of fans of other teams saying Cam is going to leave Carolina. I do know we can franchise him after next week but the worst thing you can do in make someone stay who doesn't want to stay. With that being said, Cam has been saying the right things on wanting to stay here. Only he knows where his heart is set on playing. I forgot where I seen this but there was an article with "sources" saying that Cam really wants to win in charlotte and believes he can. Take it for what its worth..

I've had a similar sentiment.  I sense he wants to stay but he's a kid who has learned how to say the right things so I'm cautiously optimistic.

    • I see progress and improvements. We aren't the same team we were even at the beginning of this year. You want to harp on the past while I am all about the present and future. Do I know thinks are going to be great moving forward? Actually I don't but I prefer to look at the good instead of the bad. Since he is surely going to be the QB the rest of this year barring injury, I am going to root for him to succeed instead of fail. I always said if we are going to finish at 500 for the year I prefer we win at home since I will be there and want to see wins and crying opposing fans like the cowboys. So far mission accomplished. Now we have to show we can win on the road.
    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
