If the Panthers lose should Ron Rivera return?

if the panthers win the superbowl, ron should be given his chance to hold the trophy, hand it to cam, then be shot at midfield like a mad dog with mange.

he has no business being a head coach in this league. Playoffs are fluky as poo and rewarding people for late season runs is how we got his extension in the first place.

I wanted Rivera fired even after he won coach of the year last year, he is just terrible, he is not a championship caliber head coach

Even after all his "Riverboat Ron" stuff during last season (which in itself was crap as really, he was just making the smart decision most of the time, that any coach should make, he wasn't really "gambling") he totally reverted back to his gutless self in the playoff game.

He has proven without a shadow of a doubt to me that he is not a coach you can win a SB title with

And if that's the case, why keep him around when he's had 3 losing seasons out of 4?

Why delay the inevitable and push back getting a new coach/system in here for another full season (or two or three or four if he keeps having mediocre to good seasons to save his job and not GREAT ones)?

Just get rid of him, jump forward a few years in the evolution of this team and get the change going BEFORE Cam's prime years pass him by.

I think this teams ceiling with Ron as a HC is first or second round in the playoffs, and that's the problem, if we keep just missing or just making the playoffs and not winning the NFC, he'll never get fired.

Ron Rivera IS NOT and will NEVER be an elite HC in the NFL, and when we right now have players like Cam, Kuechly, and Benjamin, we should not be wasting those with a guy who has proven he can't get it done when it matters.

If we were the Bengals, a team with solid starters and one superstar, then yes, you keep a mediocre coach who is going to have your team competing for a playoff spot most years, but isn't going to lift you to anything greater than that.

But we have 3 potential superstars, at maybe the 3 most impactful positions in the current style of NFL football.

Hell, I wouldn't have minded Rivera as the HC instead of Fox during the 2000's, that would have been fine, it would have fit the style players of those teams as well.

But when we have a freaking Ferrari, why the F*** is it parked in the garage while we roll out the Prius?

Run an up tempo offense, it's when this offense is at it's best.  Quit with this craptastic time of possession based offense.

That is something that will never happen under Ron Rivera's watch, so why keep him when the most valuable and important player on your team is built for an exact opposite style of play?

I really just don't like Rivera at all, I want him gone, which unfortunately, I don't see happening even with an embarrassing loss this weekend, and we're stuck for another year of a playoff push and keeping his job yet again

If we lose, then I think Rivera will be back. Why? Because we are rebuilding the team and I am not convinced that they expected to improve on last season's record.

The O-Line has undergone significant change, and still has a ways to go.

The receiving core has undergone a significant change, and could use another stud to line up opposite Benjamin.

The defense has improved as the season has gone on, but there are still holes that need addressing.

So unless DG/JR believed this roster is good enough to surpass last season's team, then Rivera stays and the rebuild continues. However, if they believed this roster is good enough, then he could always be fired for underachieving...

For me, Rivera stays win or lose.

I'm certain Rivera isn't going anywhere.

Dispite our feelings that we could do better, he really hasn't done anything to deserve to be fired.

I don't know that Gettleman feels that he should use Shula as a scapegoat for injuries, mistakes, and poor execution by players.

We tied with Cincy and lost to ATL because of bad coaching decisions. The same ones he continues to make. We win both of those games and the division is already clinched.

If we win he should be gone. It's clear as day he is only in it for the money and job security, he got his extension so Riverboat and his desire to win went out the door. He's a terrible HC and should be fired win or lose this game

The thing about it is he still gets paid even if he's fired. That's why I don't understand why coaches are such wimps with play calling. Them getting fired isn't like us getting fired. The absolute worse case scenario for Ron Rivera is that he's a linebacker coach next season on a pretty good team, but most likely a DC on a team. All the while still getting paid by the Panthers.

Agreed with everything you said. :thumbsu:

However/my guess?....Rivera's hoping by gods gift, he can BS his way to (GASP) another contract if GMan and JR were dumb and senile enough to do so? :startle:

Saying all that: Rivera's such a wuss, that things like money, contracts and stability don't even come into the equation IMHO. He struggles so hard, just trying to manage an NFL game as a head coach when faced with certain situations, he just resorts back to his true nature it appears, regardless of how often he's gotten burned doing the same thing previously. :phew:
