Do you think Mike Mitchell leaving was a good thing in the end?

Ehhhh. I'm glad Norman has stepped up and kind of taken Mitchell's role as the vocal guy in the secondary. If he didn't I'd probably still want Mitchell. At this point his loss isn't as bad as it looked 2 months ago.

the meanness in the secondary is being brought more by Boston then Norman. Norman chats but Boston hits tugging hard. Hell I've even seen Bene lay harder hits then Norman.

I can't tell you how many times I have typed the following sentence on this forum:

"If we had re-singed Ginn, Captain and Mitchell to their over-sized contracts, it would have reflected NO change at all from the Marty Hurney era of overpaying average players and dooming us to future cap hell."

so fug yes it was, Mitchell would have had to had a top 5 safety season - the likes of Earl Thomas, Weddle, etc. to warrant that deal. He has been below average with the Steelers to make it an even more brilliant move.

And this isn't a bash Mike Mitchell post, I really liked the guy for us and I'm really happy he got paid.

    • I know people get mad when I point this out but there are usually only 1-2 maybe 3 solid players each draft. Everyone likes to hype up in the offseason and think all 7 will be Pro Bowlers but realistically in my opinion: Freeling- Solid Starter for a while probably makes it to 2nd contract. Hunter- Turns out to be best player of the group. Turns into a Kawaan Short type DL. Brazzell- Serviceable, some flashes but doesn’t make it to a 2nd contract. Too slow in the short game, takes a while to build up speed, runs awkward on routes. Lee- I just don’t see it on tape. Maybe a taller version of Troy Pride.  Hecht- I think he will be around for a little while. Reminds me of Mays, where he was shaky at first but eventually became dependable. Wheatley- Really like him. Think this will be a guy that sticks around a while as a borderline starter/solid back up. He’s already probably better than Nick Scott. Kuwatch- Probably a depth/practice squad guy a few years and fizzles out.
    • And I believe the 1st matchup was Shough’s 2nd career start.   Remember Bryce’s 2nd start?    If you don’t, no sweat, he will probably replicate it a couple more times this year.
    • For a topic that started as a lighthearted, off-season "hey, bryce should keep the beard" banter, this thread sure took a turn
