Essay DeAngelo Wrote on the Plane

Don't play football?

Don't bite the hand that feeds you Deangelo. You would be only known by a much smaller circle if not for football. To the victor goes the spoils and you should be grateful the 10's of thousands of everyday blue collar people who set aside their hard earned money to keep the NFL in business and a steady check in your account. Go switch places with those guys and stay fresh and focused and productive on about 20 total days off for a YEAR.

Cry me a river.

thats what i got out of it. and if Deangelo really did write this, i think he has called out the wrong (right) people. if there was any chance he would come back next year somewhere in the league, i dont see it now.

agreed. it was very well written. i do hope Deangelo retires this offseason. he truly doesnt have it anymore talent-wise. but that doesnt mean he isnt an outstanding person and an asset to the community. he will always be one of my favorite former Panthers. i might just get a jersey to collect one day.

honestly, ive not heard one person say that they like Cam but not the Panthers. its always the other way around... "i like the Panthers but i cant stand Cam" they always name his maturity, inaccuracy, the issues he faced at Auburn, or his inexperience as reasons to dislike him. to me, they always reek of ignorance. unfortunately, i often hear that most from members of my family. :( cant choose your family i guess...

thank you for standing up for capitalism. i like Mol3m4n, but the communist rhetoric he is spewing about how owners should spread their wealth around is preposterous when the players make MILLIONS of dollars. how greedy can someone get? not Mol3m4n. but the players. i cant stand the NFLPA. i know they do some good work looking out for the health and safety of the players, but constantly fighting for more money when the players already make more than the vast majority of Americans dream of making? thats despicable. if they want the players to make more money, they need to fight to increase roster sizes and increase the salary cap (not remove it, there has to be a cap for competition purposes).

i am fine with the owners being filthy rich. im fine with the players being filthy rich. but when either side heckles anyone for more money, it pisses me off. they are blessed to be making millions. no need to raise hell for more.

obviously the basic point here is management vs. labor. this is a capitalism vs communism issue. both sides deserve respect and an equal share of the profit. management and players should receive the profit 50/50. if its skewed toward management, its crony capitalism and wrong. if its skewed toward the players, its communism and wrong.

both crony capitalism and communism view wealth as a pie and try to divide a limited amount of pie amongst the various actors in the system according to what their ideology views as "fair". Regulated, but free market, capitalism circumvents those issues and just makes more pie. in other words, let the NFL owners make as many millions as they want. but pay the players fair, free market salaries.

(NOTE: im not looking for a ideological argument. i gave my two cents and now im done. this isnt the Tinderbox)

Nothing says capitalism like the NFL lol

Too philosophical for the plane ride to Seattle.  Focus on the task at hand and save that rhetoric for the offseason.

For all the whiners that will say ... "Cant they have a moment to themselves ... must it always be about football".  No ... yes.  This week it is all about football for them.  If he needs a zen moment, close his eyes and think about breaking tackles.    ;)

You know what is beginning to bother me?

DeAngelo being one of my favorite players and PEOPLE on the team.

Is this really necessary to write before one of the biggest games of your career? I will take it as a release of stress and a get away.

Also he is the person that I've seen posting the bulletin board type of material, however he is the one that as of late people want to see less of.

It's like a little brother riling up a bully only to have to go and get his big brother.

I pray that he is right and we WILL in fact beat Seattle.  However, why not let the game be played without all of the extra?

That's never been this teams persona. Who knows maybe it will work.

That's all the negative huddle talk effecting  your opinion.  If it wasn't so anti Dwill around here lately you wouldn't be feeling this way.  The huddle collective slants your opinion on lots of things.  If Dwill was one of your favorite players on the team you would realize this isn't anything he hasn't done in the past.

Who died and named you Stalin? You don't get to decide when another man has made enough money that now he should run his business as a non profit. This is America....free market economy....and the NFL is a business to make money. If you think the players should make more, I'm fine with that....you pay them. Maybe I'm prejudiced because I own a business and when times got tough in the beginning, I paid my employees and wasn't able to draw a paycheck myself. My family did without as I took a huge risk to start something from the ground up. It could have failed.....we could have lost everything but we risked it and now my business is doing well. I make a very comfortable living. It is the reward for the risks I took 15 years ago. Now that things are going great, some pie eater wants to tell me I make enough money and I should shift the majority of my earning to the employees?

This is my last reply on this topic because spending others people's money is a novel concept but until you're ready to ante up your salary and allow me to tell you how to spend it......you're just talking out your rear end.

I do enjoy a good counter argument. Everyone will have different opinions. I'm just on the side that the players worked hard to get there too, and the owners already have other sources of income.

And by the way, when it comes to this conversation in politics, I'm far right. It's just the NFL that I feel this way about.

Many people zone out on a flight and do something to keep their mind off the task at hand. I never want to be working on the client presentation on the way to the client. Everything should be finished by then. I'm certain many players are playing video games or poker or tweeting.

Flying is a pain in the ass for most people.

It's a pretty impressive article. And yes there is no way he did this without editing and I would bet money it wasn't banged out on a plane ride. Do you guys fly? Laptops off for takeoff and landing. Eat. Go to the bathroom. Turbulence. It's a terrible work environment. And the verbage is over the top in some places.

I put out reports almost daily and I take credit for them. And there are multiple eyes on them before the final product. Smart by him.

I think D-Will is just doing what he does. Or possibly trying to set himself up for a media career after he hangs up the cleats. What better situation to do so when you have guaranteed money and time on your hands. Too many NFL players wait until they are escorted out the door to figure out what is next.

In any case I like the article. Whether it is contrived or not it feels like this is the honest ramblings and a semi celebrity. I am guessing there are many sports figures and other household names nodding their head in agreement as they read it.

It takes like 2 hours to create a post, an hour if you've been thinking about the topic already. It's not that out of the way to think it's possible.

A few thousand words perfectly edited with complex grammar ("collective faux-appall", "immediacy, permanence, and virtually limitless reach", "predictably taken to task", "between the lines as validation of their fantasy managing prowess") uploaded with pics.

I'd love it if Deangelo actually scripted this. And I am not saying there aren't football players with this level of authorship. But I'm not buying it for a second.

I'm sure it is his thesis but that is all.

I'll tell you what....take out a loan or invest you own life savings in an unproven new business, work hard and build the brand for 50 years until you turn that investment in a multimillion dollar company. Once you do that, I'll come along and ask if you're paying your employees the vast majority of the money your company is earning. Sheesh....

I think you missed the second post where I said the owner should get the majority because they take all the risk.
