Insider: Panthers have a leader and franchise QB in Cam Newton

That guy doesn't even try to put forth a reasonable point of view. He latches onto anything inflammatory to troll the boards and doesn't seem to mind looking foolish in the process. He's pure entertainment. LOL

You want point of view.  Over the past 4 years Cam has not improved his footwork or mechanics which have effected his accuracy.  He is getting worse every year and oh yeah he is getting injured more.  He is starting to look like Michael Vick 2.0 on the field and is not worth top 10 QB pay. I have stated before I wouldnt mind signing Cam but nothing over 19 million a year but I wouldnt want it more than 4 years.

Terrible argument and categorically false.

1. First two seasons he had a real OC who liked to attack defenses and throw down field. He had Smith, LaFell, Olsen and Shockey. Oh, he also had a decent offensive line. As such, he rewrote the record books for a young QB.

2. Shula comes in and focuses on running more, the OL deteriorates and his targets become fewer and fewer.

3. His mechanics were much improved at the beginning of this season as he was forced to stay in the pocket - until his terrible OL had him getting hit repeatedly. Who doesn't lost their footwork and fundamentals when being beat to a pulp?

4. His reads and decision making has improved since he came into the league and ESPN did a nice segment on it leading up to the AZ game, I'll find it if I can.

5. He's become more patient in the pocket, waiting to take off and run.

He's improved in every area, I don't know what you're watching. He has stuff he needs to improve on, but to say he's failed to grow is just absurd.

1. stares down his receivers cant look off defenders.

2. Cant throw to where receivers are going to be

3. Still need to work on his touch passes just zips it in

4. Starting to hear footsteps when nobody is there.

5. oh still not accurate with throws.  Doesnt throw where only his receiver can catch it.

6. Still throws high

Yeah he really has made progress and also his stats are worse.

I think your concern about Vick 2.0 is valid up to a point, except Cam isn't running illegal dogfighting rings and probably won't have any prison-related distractions to derail his career.  As for your other criticisms...

#1 is pretty unfair, he's gotten better enough at not staring down receivers and checking his reads that announcers point it out during games.

#2-4 are all about giving him time.  When he's had it and is allowed to be comfortable in the pocket, he does much, much better with all of these.

#5 is true, and he often overthrows.  But show me a QB who's got perfect touch on every ball.  He is accurate enough that he is still completing 58.5% of his passes, in a year when he's been under constant pressure.  That's not terrible.

#6 yup...

JOAT pointed out correctly that early in the season, when he was not allowed to move around in the pocket, his footwork showed a ton of improvement.  When injuries mounted, he got pressured more and got a lot of happy feet.  But even as a rookie he showed what he can do when he has more offensive talent around him and an OC who calls plays to his strengths. He's gotten better since then, and if we get him solid protection and one or two more reliable receivers (assuming at least one can stretch the field), he's going to look dominant out there.

Oh, and he's just 25.

God squirrel you are a fuckimg dumbfug.

Can we just ban people that are so categorically false it's an embarrassment to this message board?

Differing opinions are welcomed here as long as rules are followed. This place would be pretty boring if everyone just agreed with everything. Not much discussion in that.

Also, watch the personal attacks. I know u r joking but others may not.

I  will not go into a lenghty detail explaining the obvious but we are fortunate to have Cam Newton as our QB for the present and future. Cam is certainly not perfect, what QB is, but he has the drive and mindset to get better and reach his unlimited upside.

If Cam were ever to leave and go elsewhere, you would see how fast that teams fanbase would like and appreciate him, something we may need to do a little more of, instead of nit picking his every little flaw, faults that can be corrected..
