Carolina Huddle Magazine?

I contributed this month to the local one here guess.. all about what preseason is and how its supposed to be viewed and to calm the fvck down everybody.

When yu do a monthly, everyday information is impossible to report (obviously) but it really is much more difficult to generalize things and still make them interesting.

It's usually previews of draft, camp, season, playoffs, etc. an open letter once a year and fan piece if so allowed (did one after the Monday night TB game last year). A whole mag on the Panthers is going to be very difficult to make marketable to lots of fans without at least two player interviews a month and a coach interview.

My friend does all sports, youth through professional but only with NC ties. The youth is stuff is mainly based in the triad. You may see a the Monthly Panther piece sandwiched between a men's softball team sponsord by a local biz who is tearing it up and an undefeated little league team (just did one 52-0).

It always helps get that ad in when the owner's son is a decent HS goalkeeper or frisbee golf champ ;)

I think this is a no brainer. You have to decide if the credentials out weigh revenue.

Because revenue will be suspect with the advent of the interwebz.

Refocusing on premium content on the huddle with your BASE of people is a simple and lower cost endeavor.

Do the mag monthly or quarterly and almost consider it a loss leader to gain access from the NFL.

Capture that revenue that is already sitting right here on the huddle. Low cost though.

It's all about the cred, man.

Go for it. I'll put in my duckets to buy a subscription.

I would like to see a section devoted to the dumbest threads/comments made in the past month. Basic filler material between a Beason interview and 36 pages of high gloss kittens.

I can set it up in InDesign for free.

EDIT: After reading through the thread, a few things...

1.) You can't let just anyone write in this magazine. As stated, it should only be a select few that have proven they have the ability. Most of the people here, imho, wouldn't exactly make great writers.

2.) You could make two versions of the subscription, 1 digital and 1 print. The print one comes out a week before the digital version is released.

3.) I can give my wholesale account information for a 4-color process printer. Pricing is as follows, and includes printing, triming, binding, shipping, etc: (assuming a 64 page magazine)

250 = $1778

500 = $1878 (and that isn't a typo...its only another 100 for an additional 250 mags)

1000 = $2352

So, if you assume a ready base of 100, you're still looking at $17.78 per issue, per person. That doesn't even include shipping. You'd need to get the price down to roughly $6 - $7 per issue and even that is pushing it. Not to burst anyone's bubble, but it really just isn't feasible.

Many of the members here already spend so much money on PSLs, Toys for Tots, tailgates, etc that fronting a magazine may just be the proverbial straw.

Regardless, I am more than happy to set up the files each issue. I love using InDesign and don't really get the opportunity to use it very often!

Here is a fake magazine that I set up one day while extremely bored:
