Since Hurney is back in the spotlight after raising some questions on his radio show yesterday, I was curious what you, my fellow Panther faithful, feel is the bigger crime.

I just about had a Haht attack.

If we traded UP to get Jimmy and lost out on CAM... just knowing how close we came to doing this...

just about self deficated..

Rumor is he was close to pulling the trade off. That would have set our organization back a damn decade while Cam was balling up in Buffalo.

Trading the next year's number one or another pick in that draft?  I don't think he was looking to give up the next years' first again.  But if he had, then that would have been the worst decision of his tenure, no doubt.

Yeah but that only would have guaranteed that we drafted Andrew Luck the next year...

Knowing how he likes to trade, we probably would have traded a 2012 first rounder to trade up in the 2nd to draft Andy Dalton (which would mean no Cam AND no Luke).

This speculation about losing Cam over Clausen all assumes that Cam would have been drafted number 1 in 2011.  At the time there were many pundits who didnt predict he would be drafted or more accurately should be drafted in the top 10.  He was projected to us in the first round because we wanted him, but most folks thought that he was perhaps the 3rd or 4th best quarterback in the draft.  Guys like Mayock thought that Gabbert was a much better QB than Cam. Teams may have picked Ponder or even Jake Locker who went 10 and 8 respectively before Cam.

Hurney was right picking Cam though as the other 3 guys mentioned were not even offered a 5th year option and are all scheduled for free agency.

    • Then why are they paying QBs so much compared to other players? QB are making so much it's harder and harder to pay other players. If a guy plays like 1 of 11 then there pay should be in line with that. Not all QB should be breaking the bank just because your next or a former 1st rounder There is a reason they say try to win it all on a QB rookie deal because after that they can cripple a team on what it can do. I would rather not do that for a bottom 1/3 QB. Cam and Jake have been the only QBs worth investing long term into this team has had I would rather not lower the bar. If a guy don't got the IT factor and it shows I would rather not invest long term into them and keep looking
    • Aho…come out and prove me wrong boy.
    • I mean, I hear what y'all are saying, but Derrick could have been positive without being negative.  He essentially accused people of not seeing Bryce's improvement because of their desire to not be wrong. He could've kept it about Bryce and the team. For example, he could've said: "Bryce has made strides, and we believe in him. This coming season, his continued improvement will turn a lot of people into believers."  That would've been supportive of his teammate and sent a message to the doubters. That being said, his tact almost summoned and left the door ajar for more skepticism. That's my take anyway. Bryce has improved from the bottom to perhaps skirting the line between the bottom third and mid-third at best...after three seasons. We've all seen it. Yay! In my mind, Bryce has still got a long way to go and a short time to get there, but my expectations are top five--at least top 10--always! Yes, I am a fan, so there's that, but I don't believe it's unreasonable to expect excellence. Hopefully the Panthers FO has the same mindset (and that doesn't even necessarily have anything to do with what we gave up to acquire him). That is the lens I'm looking through. Derrick Brown has his homer glasses on. He just needs to be more diplomatic and thoughtful with his words in my opinion, but I get it that he's a good teammate.
