More than any other team, New England's success is based on exploiting opponent weaknesses and being more prepared as a result of Bellichek's game planning and attention to detail. Listen to any of his former players and they often say how many situational plays they run based on what BB has seen. Even Butler said he'd seen the play before and focused intercepting the inside slant in practice before the game. 

 

This is why the Patriots aren't seen as "lucky", Bellichek puts a premium on smart players who can adapt to his weekly gameplan rather than pure physical talent players like the Seahawks have. 

 

The model is there for coaches to build perenial contenders rather than trying to assemble superior talent that will peak and drop off as you struggle against the cap.

Too much cheating and skimming around the rules for me to appreciate Bill Belichick.  I must agree that his players are smart players including Lafell.  If players don't comply to his way, they know they will be gone.  I bet it's like a gestapo in their camp.

One week they rush for 200 yards, the next they throw for 400. It's great that they can change a game plan like that and have success. With the Panthers we struggle to teach the guys our base offense. We have blown assignments in week 12 for simple plays.

The Patriots have been very good for a long time, but it's not as if they had any competition in their own division.

 

The AFC East (minus Brady) has had no very good to elite QBs during the entire Brady-Belichek era. (actually I consider Chad a very good QB who just couldn't stay healthy...but when he was...he won the AFC East twice)

 

Who are the best QBs that have played in the AFC East since 2001?

• Oft injured Chad Pennington (got to the playoffs 4 times)
• downside Drew Bledsoe who had only 1 good year in Buffalo and still didn't make the playoffs
• Torn bicep Brett Favre (1 yr)
• Butt Fumble Mark Sanchez
• Jay Fiedler?????
• Chad Henne
• We're reaching Matt Moore levels now.....

 

Compare to NFC South where there are 3 firmly entrenched franchise QBs for the last 4 years. Before that you had Vick/Delhomme/Brad Johnson-Jeff Garcia. All better than that hodpodge of QBs listed above.

You may very well be getting your wish.  The rest of the NFCS is in a downward spiral.  All three other teams are on the downturn.

 

edit: except maybe the Bucs.  They've been pretty consistent in how bad they've been.

pretty much every accomplishment the panthers have ever had were "luck". our one super bowl run especially. 

 

that's why back to back winning season or any form of consistency have always alluded us. we get lucky every four years or so.
