All-time worst Panther starters?

In no particular order:

QB - Jimmy Clausen (goes without saying)

HB - Lamar Smith/2005 Stephen Davis (both averaged 3.5 YPC)

WR - D.J. Hackett, Rae Carruth, Louis Murphy, Dwayne Jarrett

LT/RT - Byron Bell

DE - Jason Peters

DT - Sione Fua, Ron Edwards

K - Justin Medlock

KR/PR - Joe Adams

I have to disagree on your running backs. Lamar Smith was all we had for the half season he played. Everybody knew we were running. We had no line. He still averaged 3.5.

In 2005, Stephen Davis was nothing more than a short yardage / goal line back. Look at his TDs and 1st down stats.

DJ Hackett was not a starter. He alternated the third WR spot with Jarrett during the 2008 run fest season.

Olindo Mare was a million times worse than Medlock.

Ron Edwards did his job. He was a run stopper and nobody ran against us when he was in the lineup.

And lol @ Edwards over Hayden

Half of you guys have a 4 year memory. Others don't know what starter means.

I don't have time to go over everything but names like Chris Weinke, Darrin Hambrick, Scott Greene, Matt Willig, Lamar Smith, Isaac Byrd, Shayne Graham, Michael Gaines, Colin Branch all deserve consideration. How about this, Jermaine Wiggins started 11 games at TE for us one year with 8 catches.

There is no reason for Rae Carruth to be on anyone's list because the reasoning has nothing to do with football. "Worst Starter" suggests they were starting without that talent required to start. Carruth had the talent and some production. He was just a despicable human being.

How could Foster or Captain be on anyone's list? Overrated yes, but far from worst

Captain certainly belongs. We've had Eric Davis, Doug Evans, Terry Cousins, Ricky Manning, Reggie Howard, Chris Gamble, Ken Lucas, Melvin White, Josh Norman as corners expected to start. Yes there have been worse corners that were backups that started a few games due to injury. But if you're talking about those expected to start, Captain was one of the worst, if not the worst corner.

I've never seen a starter picked on and abused more than him. Easy INTs that just fall into his lap that not even Armanti Edwards could drop don't count. Ricky Manning is close behind, but at least he was decent. Same for the others I mentioned. Munnerlyn as a starting CB just simply could not cover. The only times he could is when he held on for dear life which drew penalties or he was facing subpar receivers. Our front 7 masked a lot more of his lack of coverage skills as well.

Those putting DeShaun Foster as all time worst are just hating on him for not panning out. He had legit top 10 talent. HIs career was ruined by injuries much like other Panther RB's. Sure he was a disappointment but the ability was there for a time.

Foster. Deangelo, TIm B and Stewart are probably the most talented RB's we've ever drafted and you can make an argument that each one is a bust. Personally the worst has to be either Smart or Robinson if you put them in a starting role. At least Foster could take it to the house in his prime.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
