Jaelen Strong

Want this kid.

Wasn't to many OT's that stood out to me yesterday as a 1st round guy yesterday.  This WR class is Super deep again.

I've seen several people rush Perriman up the boards, but I think Strong is the #4 WR in this class.  Would be a top 15 guy if it was for White, Cooper, and Parker.

Strong has only played 2 seasons at ASU and posted 2,287 yards and 17 TDs in those 2 seasons.  Going up against some of the top DB's in the Nation in the Pac12 (Alex Carter, Ifo, and Marcus Peters just to name a few)

He is a Very Physical Strong WR with good hands.  A couple guys announcing the combine compared him to Fitzgerald.

Strong just measured up at 6'2 217 at the combine.  Posted a 4.44 40 42" vert and 10'3 broad jump

at the Combine for wideouts.

Football Savages:

"In the Sun Devils offense, Strong played both on the outside as well as in the slot. ... When it comes to route running, Strong ran a substantial number of comebacks with a healthy dose of back shoulder plays, drags, slants, screens and then various deep attacking routes such as posts and go routes. ... impressive hands and ability to shield opponents from the football ... Strong has arguably the most impressive hands in the entire class at wide receiver. ... his hands are outstanding. ... Easily the most impressive part of Strong’s game is his hands. They work like vice grips and he is able to make some difficult plays look relatively routine. He does an excellent job of plucking the ball out of the air and securing it away from his body. There are some occasional drops but most of them are a result of contact or having a difficult time separating as opposed to a hands issue.

In addition to his hands, Strong does a great job of tracking the football both down the field as well as through contact. He has demonstrated an excellent catch radius... He also does an excellent job of using his body to box out opponents from the play... The combination of Strong’s skills make him a natural option when it comes to high pointing the football. He times his jumps well"

Colts Draft:

"The Colts must add a receiver either in free agency or the draft, but the biggest favor they could do for themselves at the position is to add someone who could be even better than their No. 1 receiver Hilton.

...

Jaelen Strong gives Luck a target with a huge catch radius... His size, strength and long arms make him a huge matchup concern for opponents. Strong’s basketball background shows, as he boxes out defensive backs, wins jump balls and has the ball skills of a power forward. He..runs a plethora of routes. Although a primarily outside receiver, Strong also lines up in the slot. He uses his body very well, especially on back-shoulder connections....a technical, well-rounded receiver... Strong reminds me a lot of a taller Anquan Boldin. They both are physical receivers that use their bodies and technique to get the ball, and they almost always win jump balls."

Outside of the likely gone trio of Parker/White/Cooper, this is the only other WR I'd consider at 25.

Basically, he's the only WR I can see us landing in R1 unless we really fall for someone else.

The 3 Collins kids, Strong, Phillips, and Odi are my shortlist.

Strong and aSpeedy slot guy in the 4th like a Lockett or Diggs. We just Brought in a 2nd WR coach to help out. 3 WRs in these 2 loaded classes with all that coaching help and will be here for a while to gel with Cam is the best case scenario

    • Option A:  Pay your starting QB starting QB money. Option B:  Look for a starting QB for 4-10 years (or longer) while wasting the talent at every other position.    How many of the top 20 QB's do you think are worth what they are being paid?   When you factor in the last year of his present deal his contract is really an average of 45 million per year which in today's QB market is a very, very good deal. I wish we'd had found a Brock Purdy to pay 50+ million a year right after we parted ways with Cam.  Ya'll go ahead and live in fairy tale land where good to great (much less elite) QB's are available to pay. Just the fact that they had the chance to pay Brock after the disaster of trading up for Lance is a testament that when you find a quarter back you can win with, complete in the playoffs and superbowls with, you pay him.
    • They will still be a playoff team but they aren't contenders anymore IMO. They won't be able to spend like they have when they went to a SB and proved he couldn't carry a win at that level with a really good team around him. Now he is going to have to do it with less to spend around him. They just locked in to being a playoff bound team that's going to be a known speed bump for whoever will represent the NFC in the SB.
    • Hmm. I think he'll live up to it. Last year, about half of his team was on IR it seems, at one time or another. Year before, Super Bowl appearance. Year before that, playoff run after being third on the depth chart and being pressed into service. Is he one of the greatest in the game right now? Nope. No chance of that. Is he in the top 10 going into next season? Pretty good chance of that.  Would 20 or more teams in this league love to have the guy as their starting QB. Most likely so. He's a good QB who can implement his coach's game plan to a T and has both the confidence of and confidence in his teammates. That'll take you a long way in this league if you've got the right cast around you, and he does.
