PFT points out a glaring fact about the fastest combine receivers

Specifically, that more often than not they don't turn out to be great NFL players.

PFT: Fastest receivers at the combine rarely pan out

Now lemme make a quick confession. A big reason I'm posting this topic is because I think many folks here will find one of the names listed among the cited examples...amusing.

1. Marquise Goodwin, 4.27 in 2013: 325 yards in two seasons, 162.5 a season.

2. Jacoby Ford, 4.28 in 2010: 848 yards in four seasons, 212 yards a season.

2. J.J. Nelson, 4.28 in 2015

4. Yamon Figurs, 4.30 in 2007: 103 yards in four seasons, 25.8 yards a season.

4. Darrius Heyward-Bey, 4.30 in 2009: 2,413 yards in six seasons, 402.2 yards a season.

6. Jason Hill, 4.32 in 2007: 2,413 yards in six seasons, 173.8 yards a season.

6. Chad Jackson, 4.32 in 2007: 171 yards in three seasons, 57 yards a season.

8. Brandin Cooks, 4.33 in 2014: 550 yards in one season.

8. Phillip Dorsett, 4.33 in 2015

8. Mike Wallace, 4.33 in 2009: 5,834 yards in six seasons, 972.3 yards a season.

11. Tavon Austin, 4.34 in 2014: 660 yards in two seasons, 330 yards a season.

11. Johnny Knox, 4.34 in 2009: 2,214 yards in three seasons, 738 yards a season.

11. Willie Reid, 4.34 in 2006: 54 yards in two seasons, 27 yards a season.

11. Ryan Swope, 4.34 in 2013: Never played in the NFL.

Heh

The game is not played in underwear....

Most of those guys are also short or underweight. This is why Mayock will look at a 4.6 receiver and be ok with it because he is 6'3 plus and over 220. This is also why Gettleman stresses that it is a big man's game. It doesn't matter if you run a 4.2 if a corner can knock you on your ass at the line.

This.  Oftentimes, the fastest 40 guys at the combine are pretty much track stars who just happened to play college football.

Also, not really fair to include Swope on that list.  He hung it up due to concussions before his career even got started.  I remember the shock of that 40.  Most people thought he was a 4.6 possession type guy and then he blazed it.

    • He’s also 21 years old. I don’t know why fiz is so eager to label him a bust
    • It’s wild to me that so many of you guys are threatened by the idea of an opposing team fan who is polite in 2025. He’s been posting here on and off for years, usually when our teams play each other which hasn’t been for a while. I’d maybe understand this treatment if it was a falcons or saints fan, but packers fans in general are one of the nicer fan bases as long as you aren’t another NFC north team (especially the bears).
    • Some players excel on the big stage, while others freeze and succumb to the pressure. I’m not convinced Cam took a dive. I think he didn’t handle the stage very well. The pressure got to him and he folded. He wouldn’t be the first quarterback or player to struggle in a Super Bowl. Two HOF examples - John Elway and Jim Kelly. The 2002 MVP, Rich Gannon, threw 5 interceptions against the Bucs. Poor performances happen.  Unless of course you believe all these players threw the games they played in, but if that occurred, surely someone by now would have admitted taking a dive? 🤷‍♂️
