NFL VP: Changing PI to 15-yard penalty a possibility

Vincent suggested an alternate solution to replay that would make PI a 15-yard penalty rather than a spot foul. There's concern that making pass interference reviewable would undermine game officials, who have to make difficult calls in real time.

do not like, leave it how it is

The 15 yard version gives incentive to CBs that have been beaten to commit the foul.

And that's different than how it is now somehow?

Currently taking the spot foul even if its on the 1 yard line is better than giving up a potentially undefended TD.

Yeah, I agree with the guys before me. I've always preferred the NFL's handling of PI to the college game because it helps keep the competitive aspect honest (not that ole Roger has shown any concern for competitive integrity since taking office)

It's not like these big play PIs happen enough for this to warrant a change.

To see a deep pass in college broken up by PI, only to result in the offense moving up 15 yards just doesn't seem fair.

If the rule were changed there would probably be a lot more intentional pass interference penalties commited by the defense.

Can't have guys intentionally committing penalties to prevent big plays. Bad idea.

but just think of all the extra play stoppages and commercials we could get out of it.

that one with the all the people who had bad fantasy years just gets me every time man i mean ha-ha.

"One Giant Step" ha-ha get it because he's a Giants fan

    • I think the qualification has changed over time though. A deep ball play used to take 4 to 6 seconds for the receiver to get to that spot on the field. Now a receiver can be there in 2.5. That's less time than most QBs have to set and throw. In my mind a deep route takes time to develop. A crossing route and a deep route can't take the same amount of time at full speed. You can have 4 deep balls on the same drive,  almost 5 if you do 5 20 yard throws goal line to goal line. That doesn't even make sense when you say it out loud.
    • The sad part is it looks manicured enough that he's aware it's running away from him.  Also, I just wanted to give you some fun loving grief on King Haynes today having a chance to throw a game winning TD, and was wildly errant, and ultimately picked off to end the game.  So happy I won't have to hear anything else about The Golden Calf of Bristol lite ever again watching college football.
    • I just think Panthers believe in Bryce far more than the fans do and he is most likely going to be the QB at least the next two seasons. the real shot of us moving from Bryce is not getting an extension, till then they are going to give him every chance to succeed and I just want to win.
