NFL VP: Changing PI to 15-yard penalty a possibility

This is a tough decision.  I think that they should definitely change defensive holding to a 5 yard penalty and replay the down (as opposed to automatic first down.)  I think PI should stay the same, but there should be redefined criteria that a ref should have to determine PI.  The amount of PI that is called these days is ridiculous.  If we can ease up on that than it wouldn't be such a bad penalty.

I didn't read the article, so I'm not aware of the other details...but what are they going to do when Calvin Johnson beats a corner on a deep play, and instead of playing the ball the safety just comes up over the top totally ignoring the ball and just tackles CJ?

What about if Benji gets open on like a 35 yard pass and has a chance to make a TD in the back corner of the endzone and instead of playing the ball the 5'10 corner back just shoves KB out of bounds?

It should be a spot foul if it's deliberate.

This is the pros, and I expect a professional standard. I can just see players intentionally interfering with passes when it is the lesser of two evils. As for it undermining officials by ostensibly making them look bad, reviewing pass interference would be just like reviewing any other call. In any event, I don't want PI to be reviewed at the expense of making it a 15 yard penalty. That would just lessen the integrity of the game.

I thought it was a valid point.

Do you watch college football? The rule is awful. Has no place in the NFL. There is nothing wrong with the current rule. Like Hollywood said they need to redefine what a catch is. 15 yard penalty not the answer.
