Eagles to Trade Up to #1 Overall?

The guy who first reported DeSean Jackson could get released last year is "becoming more and more convinced daily that the Eagles are trading up to #1 prior to the draft." Still seems unlikely to me as they would probably be able to get Mariota if they traded up to 6 as none of the teams after the Bucs until the Jets seem to be in the market for a QB early, and the Jets could probably use the picks. But, the question must be asked...

Which would you rather have happen?

1. Bucs draft Winston #1 overall.

2. Bucs get a ton of picks and Foles from the Eagles, but no Winston.

I am not trying to be flippant when I say this, but I could care less.  No one has a crystal ball. Winston could be great, or he could suck. The same goes for any picks that they would acquire.  As long as we take care of our business, that's all I am really concerned with.  As for draft picks who haven't established themselves, anything can and does happen.  G-man does give me a sense of security however.

I don't think the Bucs will do it. When you have a chance to take a franchise QB, you take it. Winston looks like he could be the real deal. Even if he flops, they have to take that chance. Who knows when they'll get the chance again.

What if they view Foles as a franchise QB?

I agree with top dawg.

We went toe to toe with the NFC champion Seahawks, and I feel like we were at the time like 40% what we can be when Gettleman maxes out this team in a few years, having his finger print the only one found..

I like what we are doing and Im confident we can beat anyone real soon.

Plus the Bucs have the #1 pick for a reason. I dont care who they get or how many, they have a long way to go.

Rams got a shitload of picks, and have they even been above .500? Sure they dont have a QB but still. They had a goldmine of picks, early pics in that draft.

poo teams will be poo

Bucs probably should take the picks and Foles if that is the deal, but they won't.  I'd honestly rather them draft Winston (who though he has the tools, is an unknown), than get a competent, proven QB and a treasure trove of picks.

Mariotta will be picked in the 4-6 range, the Eagles or a surprise team will trade up for him.

You are talking about Lovie Smith now.

When is the last time you have known Lovie Smith to draft a QB in the first 3 rounds of the draft? Never.

Lovie Smith does not like breaking in rookie QBs. He detests it. Just like John Fox.

Lovie Smith passed on Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco with the Bears. He passed on drafting a QB last year in favor of a journeyman for the Bucs. Instead he has a history of trading for QBs he has seen against NFL defenses like Cutler and McCown.

Would not be the least bit surprised if he collects picks for defense, OL, and running backs as has been his history.

If Lovie sticks with the 1st pick in the draft and does not trade it, then he goes Leonard Williams DE.

If it's true it could be a bigger steal for Tampa than the Walker to Minnesota trade or for the kids RG3 to the Redskins. But I think Chip Kelly's ego is too big and it'll be a blunder.

Anyone else think Kelly is bending the rules a little by having a fast snap count knowing the speaker in the QB helmet doesn't turn off until the play clock hits 15 seconds?

    • Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.
    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
