Could Melvin White make the transition to Safety?

WOW!!

Maybe this time the answer is actually on the roster. .

He has shown the ability to be a solid tackler and has some coverage skills.. being a CB most of his career. ..

Could he transition to Harper spot as a in the box safety with a off season of bulking up?

iirc he was kind of Eh outside of man. And I don't think he's strong enough or agile enough to cover most teams TEs at SS.

Then again neither is Harper, so.

Not having to face a teams best or 2nd best WR would help.. He was physical as a CB.. And like you said he has better coverage skills than Harper.

Could he with a year of bluking up and learning behind Harper becomes a nice safety. . He does have some what of the body for it.. all he needs to add is maybe 10 or 15 pounds of weight..

He has size, seems to be aware and a good tackler.  Definitely a zone guy anyway.   But, others on the team have observed that White had a confidence issue.  Fixable in a young player and then you're not forcing him to another position longterm for a short term problem.

You think they would have tried it already with our need at safety. Rivera and putting the best player on the field though.....

They needed him at CB last year and he had earned that after his rookie season. .

Now that he played his way out of that position maybe they will look to see..

Also you notice..

This is me stating a opinion on a different subject. ..so.....

No one claimed you never spoke of different subjects. The claim is that you regurgitate the same worn out complaint every time a transaction is made in free agency. Now back on topic because discussing it further is getting us nowheRe.

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
