Russel Wilson Contract News

They are a very good team, but they didn't even deserve to be in the Super Bowl.

Eventually their luck will reverse. It may already have.

I know, growing up as a Dolphin fan I have been waiting for the Patriots luck to run out too...more than a decade later and I am still waiting...You guys are going to say the same thing for the next 5-8 years that Dolphins, Jets, Bills, and the rest of the AFC has been saying for the past decade.

But hey, maybe we can hope that the Packers luck run out too!

Or...maybe not.

Source: Talks with Russell Wilson haven't commenced yet

A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT talks haven’t commenced yet.

It’s unclear when talks will begin, and the goal for finalizing a contract isn’t known.  Regardless, the official process of negotiating the contract, with the team and agent Mark Rodgers trading proposals until a consensus is reached, has not yet begun.

I don't know why people think this has a bearing on Cam's contract. Russell deserves MORE money than Cam imo. He's done much more throughout his short career.

He hasn't, but his team has. This ain't basketball, where the team with the best player usually wins. It's a complete team game. Put Cam on Seattle and Wilson here. Are they a worse team with Cam? Would we be a better team with Wilson?

The problem with fully guaranteed contracts is that it would change the way the NFL operates if they become commonplace. That fully guaranteed money has to be paid the moment the player signs. If these types of contracts become more common, the teams owned by the richest owners are going to have a major upper hand despite the efforts of a hard salary cap to keep a level playing field.

Guaranteed money does not have to be paid immediately nor all up front.

Not sure what this truly has to do with Cam's contract to posted here at this time?

Just sounds like speculation by Blount anyway.

And of course, the Hawks want Wilson to take less money. They had to sign/pay Beast mode in order for him to have any true relevance as QB for their team, and now they want their savings from Wilson.

That was never the case with Newton, as the Panthers know they have to pay him, as he's been the teams offense and focus of attention the moment he got to Carolina (injuries from last year be damned)!.

But allright!

Not sure Wilson's even the best player on his team (not saying you were implying that or not)?

There about 3-4 players ahead of him on the Seahawks team, while Lynch as been the most important, no matter how much the media hypes him up Wilson.

I don't think the Seahawks are lucky.  Their defense is among the best ever.  But the Seahawks could end up being more like the Giants than the Patriots.   I am not sold that Russell Wilson can carry a team any more than Eli Manning can.  The question for them will be how much of the defense they can keep together and for how long?

The Giants were a team that got hot and ran into the Superbowl twice. Both times the Giants were a wildcard teams that was lead by an erratic QB that threw a ton of picks.

The Seahawks are lead by a QB whose numbers looks almost identical to Tom Brady whose team repeatedly dominated the regular season.

I am not seeing how the Seahawks and the Giants have anything in common.

The Giants would also fall of the map the season after they made their run....

Yeah, nothing alike what is occurring in Seattle.

Fully guaranteed money does indeed need to be paid upfront. It gets put in escrow until it is paid to the player. Most guaranteed money that is not scheduled to be paid in the first year of a contract is not fully guaranteed. Instead it is usually just guaranteed for skill/injury.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/03/10/suhs-60-million-will-be-fully-guaranteed/

Teams usually won’t fully guarantee large amounts because the NFL requires teams to fund the fully-guaranteed payments at signing.  In this case, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross will be required to write a check for $60 million, with Suh getting plenty of it up front and the rest going to an escrow account for future distribution.

Other teams (and likely the league office) won’t like this.  If owners who have the cash to make that kind of commitment start making that kind of commitment, they’ll have a huge advantage when it comes to signing players.  Eventually, the richest owners will take over the league.

Some believe that, previously, the richest owners have resisted doing it out of respect for the owners who can’t.  Ross may be blazing a trail that sparks renewed acrimony between the NFL’s haves and the have-mores.

Florio is a douchebag, but being a former attorney, he's usually on point when it comes to contract related stuff.

Brady and Wilson's raw numbers look alike primarily because QB's just throw it more now than they did in Brady's early days.  Brady finished among the top 10 passers in the league in his second and third year.  New England had a solid defense, but nowhere near what Seattle's defense is.  I don't think Wilson has come close to being  top 10 passer yet.  He was middle of the pack this year.

New York won its 2 Super bowls on the strength of its defense, holding its opponent to less than 20 in both wins. Their offense was opportunistic.   Eli Manning was thought of by many as a great qb at that point, but once the defense fell apart, he became an afterthought.  Its possible the same may happen to Wilson.  Or Seattle may stay dominant for a while and Wilson may become a hall of famer.  At this point, its anyone's guess.

I would love for cam to get a 4 year, 60 million dollar contract fully guaranteed. I doubt it will happen though.

Giving a fully guaranteed deal to a runnig QB who just had a lot of recent injuries would be the definitions of RISK. I would love to give Cam a guaranteed deal with less total money but if he gets hurt then you're screwed.

Also I think that the team is going to want to put milestone bonuses in there.
