WR Spotlight: Dezmin Lewis [Central Arkansas]

So there's a prospect I noticed recently that we met with, is kind of flying under the radar, and may be pretty close to what we're looking for: Dezmin Lewis

According to NFL media analysts Daniel Jeremiah and Charles Davis, UCA wide receiver Dezmin Lewis may be one of the sleepers in the upcoming draft.

Jeremiah said, “When I watched him on tape, he was so much fun to watch. Look at how long he is. (He) can stride it out and beat you over the top. A little nifty after the catch, too, for such a long, tall receiver.”

Lewis was one of the players scouts watched closely at the Senior Bowl this year, as the week in Mobile, Ala., represented a big step up in competition for him. He is speculated to draw major interest on Day 3 (rounds 4-7). Observers say he will have to round out his game further to be a complete NFL receiver. But he is said to have a big upside and has the potential to have an impact early. A plus could be his ability to help on special teams.

Scouts were interested to see how his speed matched up at the senior bowl and Lewis stood out.  He's already a savvy route runner (huge), good hands, he's got the size, and we got a chance to meet with him.  Given Gettleman's comments about the WR class being deep and whatnnot, it makes me think what the FO thinks of guys beyond the expected top-3 round picks and if they have any in mind like Lewis.

Guys like him are the reason I think we should double dip in the draft at wide receiver.  Find a guy who can start day 1 and then bring in someone to groom.  I still think we can find a day 1 starter in the second or third round with no problem. Unless one of the top 4 guys in there in the first I would go a different direction.

    • Ha ha. Are you saying that in response to the whole team, or just the Panthers? LOL  I was ninth, so I was stuck between C-Mac and someone lesser, and I really should've picked a receiver when I picked Chuba. But, YOLO. If CMC gets hurt, I hope that this San Fran writer was correct in his assertion that Guerendo is simply the better, more explosive backup. I know they signed Brian Robinson, but I think he's JAG more than anything else. Guerendo has a bit of an injury history himself, but he is 220 with legit 4.3 speed. I must admit that I took my chances with the receivers. I actually traded Chubb and Mixon for T-Mac. I'm hoping that Ollie Gordon learns the top spot in Miami and that Dont'e Thornton becomes the top dawg in Vegas. If that happens, I'll be great. Between Pearsall, Thornton, Golden, Coleman and X, someone has to break out. I also have Christian Watson in an IR slot (though I want to put something together to acquire Rashee Rice).
    • Thanks for sharing. This is fascinating stuff. I know some of us were hesitant with him due to his limited play within structure in college and the need to constantly relying on hero ball. But his lack of ownership and lack of work ethic is staggering.
    • We had 3 chances to hire harbaugh and 2 different owners passed.   We deserve every bit of misery that comes our way.  We always zig left when we should zig right.  We have had owners that thought they could outsmart the system
