Trade up? Carolina Panthers more likely to trade down (possibly out of the first round)

trading down is smart as it will give you additional pick to move pick 57 higher giving you 2 high 2nd round picks,  I would applaud this.  You will prolly get 2 first round value players cheaper.  And gettlemen is all about penny pinching.

In theory we could trade out of the first into the top of the second and pick up a third in the process. We could then use that third to upgrade our original second round pick (57) to the top of the second. We would then have 2 picks at the top of the second. At this point a Fisher/receiver (such as Dorsettor or Strong) combo could play out very well.

This would be contingent on actually finding trade partners. In reality though LinvilleGorge is probably right:

I think we'll sit tight and make a pick at #25. Dave has said in the past that he's not a fan of trading a quarter for two dimes.

I would like to see them trade down and pick up another pick for Day #2... can see NE trying to move up a few spots, ahead of Bmore to get a CB after losing Revis and Browner in FA (both starters now gone)... trade back with them and get their 1st and 2nd (basically an early 3rd)... 3 picks in Day 2 would be good with the depth of the draft... pipe dream, but who knows

I suggested thus in a couple of other threads earlier morning... If there is a significant drop off after #19, and basically all these prospects from 20-50 are essentially the same, may as well load up on them.

My preference is to either go after Gurley, or take Dorsett or Devin Smith at 25. But what if we're able to trade back and pick up multiple guys from the tackles and wide receivers discussed... Imagine possibly double dipping on Smith and Dorsett. Then add another young tackle for depth in the mid-rounds. Fap city.

And honestly, I know there's a lot of talk of us with several of the tackles, but I just don't feel they are legit value at 25. I also can't help but think of Gettleman's lines that won Superbowls in NY... They did not spend early picks on o-linemen often. Maybe that wasn't his call, but so far, he's done the same here and I just can't see him reaching for one of these guys in the first.

Even if we got a good deal, I must admit I'd be pretty sad if my head hit the pillow tonight and we hadn't made a single pick.  Call me shallow.

I'd be all in favor of a trade down for one of two things...

 

1. Future picks. We have 9 now, a trade down and we could have 11-12. We're not carrying that many guys.

 

2. Use the gained picks, to make trade ups later. 2 second rounders (Our own, plus one gained in trading down)? How about 3? Let's turn our 3rd and other picks into another. That I'd love.

If Gurley is there at 21 or 22 I'd trade up in a heartbeat it would take a fourth and a fifth or something like that.  If Gurley and the offensive lineman we want are gone I'd support a trade down as there are a few different recievers we could take at the beginning of the second that would fit really well.  If the offensive lineman we want is there at 25 and Gurley is gone I'd stick at 25 and take the offensive lineman.

Would be a great draft to trade down. The #15 to #50 prospects are all pretty even. Problem is everyone is going to be wanting to trade down too, so it's going to be harder to get a good deal from our trade partner

In the first round, I'm fairly confident in saying that he would rather trade down than up. The risk is far less in later rounds

I don't understand trading down at all in our situation. There's no way that more than 3 or 4 players from this year's draft will even make the roster and we already have 9 picks. Why not package 2-3 picks together in separate deals and trade up in the 1st/2nd/3rd and get guys that we really want?
