A little trouble in paradise (Seattle)? RW contract talks

Recommended Posts

Franchise tag would be about 18-19 million first year, second would be 20% more. if you count the 5th year, He would be making 53-54 million fully guaranteed over the next three seasons.

Fisrt three years in a long term deal would likely pay less then what he will make by sitting pat.

That is why a deal will get done because it is in our best interest to sign him long-term to get the early cap savings and the signing bonus is the reason he wants it as well.  That signing bonus is guaranteed when it is inked.  Each of the franchise tags are 1 year fully guaranteed contracts but they all aren't guaranteed up front. He knows now that injury is a real issue and can happen in the blink of an eye.  If he got hurt anytime during those 3 years. the guaranteed money dries right up.

This board, lol. Rag on RW for contract talks ... have no issue with Cam being given the biggest contract in sports history.

i don't know anybody who is clamoring for Cam to be the highest paid qb in rhe NFL, but I expect it.

Would LOVE to end up being wrong on what he gets.

Wilson is good, but you are being incredibly silly by just nonchalantly omitting the fact that Seattle has had the best defense in the league the last few years to pair with the most dominant running back in the league as well. Russell damn sure wasn't out there just willing that team to the Super Bowl all by himself.

No need to get all defensive like usual.  I am a big Cam supporter since the day I wanted him here.  Have his jersey and wear it to most games. I think he is going to have a great year and perhaps justify the money he wants given he has some good weapons around him.  This year will go a long way to determining what he gets paid.  He knows it and the Panthers know it.  If he takes us far into the playoffs he can use that in the negotiations. If he doesnt, then he really has little to say if comparing himself to Wilson in terms of results.  It wont matter whose team was better just who has had more success.  After all how much success did Seattle have before Wilson? The two year before he gets there they go 7-9 both years.  Since he came there- 11-5, 13-3, and 12-4. Cam cant come close to that. Those are just the facts. In negotiations excuses dont go very far just results.  Doesnt matter if the excuses are legit or not, they still are excuses. Lets be honest for a moment, Cam was not ready for the NFL when he was drafted, Wilson was.  Cam is catching up and with his athletic ability can pass him.  But to this point it is still Wilson with better results.

Ok, it seems crazy but he should be going high. (Not "10s of millions apart" high though. If that part is true they have discovered the greatest weed known to man.) As someone who deals with similar contrats to get paid (wording, not amounts... not even close.) & as someone who ignorantly dove at the opening offer on my first big boy contract, ANYONE, getting paid by a negotiated contract should get all they can.

Also, in case anyone wants to point at Brady for "going low for the team", its easy to go low for the team when you're pushing 20mil & your wife is doing about 3 times that.

if I am reading the thread right... RW didn't win by himself. The Panthers have won quite a few games because of Cam. Therefore,

Cam is gonna get paid.

    • After listening to Morgan's presser twice, I came away with some key beliefs. First of all, I don't think he's a bullshitter. What you see is what you get. When he says something, he means it.  The Teppers really have evolved as owners. Morgan has mentioned how they're easy to work with--a pleasure to work with a few times now. There seems to be a good relationship between all of them (and include Dave Canales on that). We'll see if it lasts. Yes, no one wanted to come to Carolina with the previous management, but that seems to have changed. The team signed arguably the top Edge, LB and OT on the market, two of them on pretty good deals and one on what I'll say is "not a bad one." And, credit Sunshine Dave "Flowers and Cotton Candy" Canales for helping to change the culture. Morgan mentioned getting guys--and I'm paraphrasing--that are not only great football players but great people. Don't look for us to be acquiring any James Pearce types anytime soon, just saying. We'll see if that holds true in the future. Dan Morgan really has set up the Panthers to take the BPA/BAP. He mentioned it at least a couple of times, and he doesn't seem pressured to pinpoint a particular position. He just wants quality players that will help the team. This is how it's going to be (to your joy or dismay, probably for as long as he's here), and personally I love it. Many of us know how Morgan was when he played: aggressive! That's what he's going to be when making acquisitions. He explicitly said it, and emphasized it. All avenues are open (think FA, waivers...the draft)! Personally, as long as it's controlled aggression and not reckless aggression, I love it.  On KP: "Mobility is big in this league."  He basically says if another QB is the BPA while drafting--we're going by our board, people--we're going to add them.        ...
    • Canes are so fascinating. Despite inconsistent defense and poor goalie play they keep winning.
    • I like Morgan's approach but I'll wait for a few winning seasons before giving too much praise.
