Godfrey considered the front runner for Atlanta's starting free safety position

Godfrey wasn't bad circa 2008-2010, but having him your starting safety now is just....reckless.  There isn't another vet FA or undrafted rookie FA they could start?  That's crazy he might start for them, not that I'm complaining.

Whatever your opinion is of Godfrey years ago, he's now nearly 30, coming off a torn Achilles about a year and a half ago, and looked like he didn't belong in the NFL when he was out there for us last year.

The fact that he is the leading candidate for a tough coverage job speaks to how depleted their secondary is even after the draft. This is good news for us.

Or maybe he wasn't 100% when he played for us or maybe we just had him playing a position he isn't good at.

Or maybe he just sucks and Atlanta has no Depth at safety.

We will find out in a few months.

We should set up Atlanta by cutting Amini, thus Atlanta would think they could sign a decent player at LG from a rival. Then when we play Atlanta we will destroy the offensive line.

    • Why would we not be contenders? As long as Bryce plays like he did when he came back, we absolutely can be contenders...that is...   if the defense plays better... which is why adding someone like Ramsey when we have a QB on a rookie deal and can afford it makes sense IMO. No one thought of the Commanders being contenders last year or the Texans the year before and so on and so forth. Top-end QB play, especially for a guy on a rookie deal, changes everything in terms of timelines. Regardless of what this board thinks, I hope the front office is willing to he aggressive in thks window we currently have with a rookie QB deal
    • Would absolutely love to have him. I dont think he would require more than a 5th rounder. The biggest thing with his contract is the amount of guaranteed money. As long as they can work out and scenario where the Panthers aren't on the hook for a lot of that, I think it's a no-brainer. The Panthers can come up with $20M at the drop of a hat with restructuring Moton's contract, so there definitely isn't an issue from a money perspective. Jaycee paired with Ramsey along with Mike Jack would give us one of the best CB groups in the league. The one caveat I see is that safety still remains our biggest current weakness. We need a starting caliber S more than CB, simply put. But adding someone like Ramsey would be amazing as long as the compensation made sense. Ramsey could also play for FS snaps also. I also dont understand this nonsense about being seasons away. We have a QB on a rookie deal who was playing at an elite level to end last season. Within reason, now is absolutely the time to make moves like trading for Ramsey.
    • He'd be a huge upgrade for this year, but we're still not going to be contenders with him and I'd rather keep the cap space to roll into next season to spend on a younger player who can be an impact starter for us for the next 3-5 years while we're hoping to contend.
