Three Panthers make the "All Underrated" team.

Recommended Posts

Wow, some respect!

If I counted correctly, only one other team had as many, the Ravens.

"Defensive end: Charles Johnson, Carolina Panthers
Johnson has 52.5 sacks over the last five seasons -- and yet, he hasn't made a Pro Bowl or All-Pro team. That's baffling, especially when you remember he pre-dates Luke Kuechly and pretty much every notable defender in Carolina outside of Thomas Davis."

"Defensive tackle: Kawann Short, Carolina Panthers
Star Lotulelei was supposed to be the stud on the interior of the Panthers' defensive line, but fellow 2013 draftee Short has arguably been more effective. Opposing blocking schemes might have something to do with this. Still, there can be no question that Short has been a force inside in Carolina's rotation. Entering Year 3, he should only get better."

"Kicker: Graham Gano, Carolina Panthers
Gano has been a solid kicker in the NFL for a couple of years now. The problem is, the Panthers' offense doesn't provide him the opportunity to put up the big point totals that other, better-known kickers do. While last year wasn't his best in terms of field-goal percentage (82.9), he was outstanding in 2013 (88.9) -- and in both seasons, Gano led ALL kickers in average kickoff distance."

I wouldn't say that. He really started to tear it up towards the end of the season before he got injured. In addition, when Hardy got suspended, Star barely got any one-on-one match ups.

He did look better right before the foot injury. But our defensive line got abused for the first half of the year and he's one of the guys we need to stand ground.

Can you call Charles underrated when he's like the 3rd highest cap number in the league?

I would say TD is underrated just based on the fact that his Pro Bowl is way past due. Snubbed last 2 years imo. But I can understand why he didn't make this list with the amount of exposure he's been getting.

    • Yup. Hopefully  Brandon adds some muscle this off-season but he'll probably be resting his shoulder for a while so I doubt it. Miles should probably be replaced but I don't think we find a better 4th option to be honest. So is it better to add depth along side williams and Coby or try to upgrade the 4/5 . I think adding depth will probably be more beneficial than trying to upgrade starters and bank on Brandon and Kons continuing development. I really don't think they are going to make the playoffs unfortunately. I think the big hole they put themselves in has exhausted them. They've been amazing since January 1 but I think it's come at a cost and their legs are gone.
    • The issue is the predictability of it all in a Bryce Young led offense. In 4th down attempts the Jets were at 41 and we were at 40. And we were 4th in conversation %. We were 25th in the league in 3rd down conversion because we faced so many 3rd and longs in part due to playcalling on 1st and 2nd down but more largely due to the limitations that cannot be overcome.  And people want us to spend another 1st rounder on WR as if it is going to magically give Bryce physical talent he will never possess. It's a shame we cut off our own nose just to put ourselves in this frustrating predicament.
