He doesn't hide the fact that the system at Carolina agrees with him.

"Being a part of an offense that I've been used to in the past, guys that want to do everything right ,who understand what it takes to get the job done," he said. "I feel if you want to get things done you've got to hold yourself accountable.

"It's just about going back to the drawing board, whether it's just going back to the basics, really. Having the mentality you're not a veteran guy. You're starting over."

Oher is starting over with the tall task of protecting Newton. He understands there are skeptics that don't believe he's capable.

"I know that I have the abilities and I'm going to put in the correct amount of work to get the job done," he said. "[It's] just being around more guys who are willing to do the same."

i think he will. watched couple game film on him . hes clearly an upgrade over bell , good pass blocker but seems a little lazy when the play is going to the opposite side or his guy beats him(maybe its because of his injury?). he is not as bad as people think

In my experience, rarely is anyone that's considered phenomenally good or bad ACTUALLY as good or as bad as people think they are.  Like JJ Watt for instance.  Dude is a freak and probably the best defender in the NFL right now, but the way he gets talked up, you would think he can do no wrong and every single play he's either sacking the QB or pressuring him.

I like this...

They talked to coaches and players around the league about Oher's struggles the past two seasons. They came to the conclusion that Oher, with surgery on a toe injury that ended his 2014 season and a reunion with offensive line coach John Matkso, could be the player that allows Newton to excel.

"In this business we have a lot of friends and people you know," Carolina coach Ron Rivera recently said. "You called them and asked them. You try to find the people who are going to be very straight and forward with you. We got a lot of positive reaction from some of the coaches we talked to ... and the players."

And this...

"I got the [same] feeling going into my rookie year of not wanting to let guys down and [being around] guys with a winning culture," Oher said. "For me, it's about getting back to the basics and fundamentals of doing everything right ... looking myself in the mirror knowing what I have to do and getting better from within.”

    • I miss many of the OGs like @ladypanther Zob had a bad off week and came in here to do some mopping and a couple of the 10 year 15k post account he just banned over a silly disagreement, just odd behavior from Zob. A Pessimal deal happened with Lady and others. I tired to find a new forum and could not get around the signing up part...same for discord. Its not perfect here by any means, but I still feel welcomed here for the most part and this place does have the most freedom. I hate how the right vs left BS nearly cooked this place, I still believe in removing the litterbox, toxic as hell and lollolols @ anyone coming into a team forum to talk about pointless politics of the uni party turds.  @Bear Hands you saved this place with your activity. It helped offset the lost of OGs and the knowledgeable that leftd.    It would help for new members and I do get the spammers deals, just got to mod them away and hope opening the door brings in fresh blood.
    • Young went to bama and Brissett went to nc state.
    • That seems about right. No higher than that for a bottom third qb with two years left, including one expensive year. He played well enough last year to show he is startable. It depends on whether other teams thought he has any upside left and whether he's been hindered by coaching and surrounding cast. I think most teams would answer no, but if they thought he could step it up just a little I could see trading a fourth or fifth for a bridge guy/top tier backup.
