I see no reason to change anything. However, eliminating kickoff wouldn't change too much but eliminating punts would completely alter the game. That's a horrible idea. If you want to destroy the sport that might be the best way.

Team gets ball on 20, gets four downs to go ten yards, only gets eight. Other team gets ball on 28. Scores. Yeah, awesome concept.

If they mean just punting, then I'd actually be ok with it.  You get 4 downs to get a first down or it goes to the other team right there.  Still need kicking for kickoffs and FGs, but taking punting out completely.  Would ruffle the "old school" feathers, but I think it'd make the game more exciting in the long run.

Doing that would be hugely retarded and a massive failure.

If you eliminate punting altogether, what happens after a safety?  No free kicks?  Rules state it can not be kicked off of a tee unless I'm mistaken, and I'm often mistaken.

 

1. On a safety kick, the team scored upon puts ball in play by a punt, dropkick, or placekick without tee. No score can be made on a free kick following a safety, even if a series of penalties places team in position. (A field goal can be scored only on a play from scrimmage or a free kick after a fair catch.)

I think Matt needs to be a little more worried about the NFL's substance abuse policy and a little less worried about what it's doing with the kicking game.

Eliminating kicks would take the joy out of watching games at Heinz Field or Soldier Field. And bad weather games wouldn't be fun anymore either. Games would be shorter but with less time available for commercials. No need for small flags at the top of the goal posts. No special kicking footballs needed. 

But wait. There's more. No more running onto the field to pick up the kicking tee by a specially chosen youngster. OMG! Not the kids!
