Do we really need Tolbert ? If we cut him how much cap room would we save ?

I just checked - about 2,5 million - if I read it right.

Yes.

Tolbert brings a skill set very few in thr nfl can.

He's more a Hback than fullback. Always has been.

This is exactly what we need for our offense. I Love Tolbert but he just doesn't fit the FB role for us. As noted he is more of a H-Back. Does that mean we should get rid of him, no! He is still a good player and can still play the HB/FB on 3rd and longs. And would be perfect as a short yardage RB ( yes Stewart is big and breaks tackles but the less shots in those scenarios, Tolbert played RB in short yardage for the Chargers as well) But a guy like Ward needs to be our FB pretty much every down but 3rd and long situations. I don't think it's much of a coincidence how smash and dash started to decline once Hoover hung it up. We need that bulldozer type blocker leading the way for our RB. Much like Hoover, and much like a for Giant (who gettleman likes to mold is like) Madison Hedgecock.

Yes. He's more of an offensive weapon like William Floyd was, especially in the red zone and on 3rd downs. It's no coincidence the Panthers were 1-7-1 in regular season games that he was injured in or on temporary IR for. With him healthy in the line-up, they went 6-1 and Shula was able to be less vanilla.

Still room for Ward on the team. We could also use a blocking fullback like Howard Griffith was for us. Brockel doesn't seem better than either Tolbert or Ward at what they do best, so the writing's on the wall for him.

tolbert played 3 games before he got hurt - we won two of those and lost one of them. We beat Detroit and Tampa Bay  ( wow )  He did not appear in a game again till we played Arizona which we won.  The next game was against the Seahawks which of course we lost.

Your story that he makes such a difference doesnt seem to have much basis.

He played in the last 5 regular season games. 4 of those were wins.

    • I mean I just don't understand the argument. Baker and Sam both have been pro bowl QBs post their time here. And you just said yourself that is due to him having a damn good roster around him and they are well coached. You're even saying the bad baker is still there somewhere, but he is in a good organization with good roster and coaching that they are getting the best out of him. Why does Baker and Sam get all that benefit of the doubt but when it comes to Bryce it must be a BY9 problem, not an org or team problem?  Hell I got a guy below you arguing with me that Chark/Hurst/Mingo sucked because Bryce wouldn't throw them open. It's ridiculous how far the stretch goes.
    • Correct.  It’s really hard to get open in the NFL when opposing defenses gameplan and cheat coverage/routes on all your players because they know your QB can’t make certain throws/plays.   magically no one that comes to Carolina can get open or make plays with the ball in their hands…..it’s like there is one singular common dominator to it all.  BY makes playing defense way too easy.   NFL players are too good to allow one side to cheat coverage and not respect all the potential threats of a route  so you can dial up a great play.  But if corners and safeties just cheat coverage and know X and Y happening on route/threats….getting open gets hard when they just play it one way.  Getting open has a lot to do with the different threats a WR can pose on a given play.
    • Kinda depends how you look at it both were 3rd round draft pics.  Nico was nothing before stroud and tank came in with stroud.  If both were on the panthers would young have them doing well and starting or would their stats be low.  I really dont know the answer to that.  None of the panthers wrs have left and did well either but personally i feel neither of nico or tank would do much on the panthers.
