Up Tempo

Recommended Posts

I heard this twice in two different videos.   The offense was up tempo.  I hope it isn't just for mini-camps.

Cam flourished in this type of offense at Auburn.

While I hope it isn't Chip Kelly I do believe this offense has the tools to up tempo teams and score.

Good God, if we could ever get 10-14 point lead on a team early.  We would really put teams right were we want them.

Stout Defense and an offense that points some extra points on the board.  I see a lot more W's then L's

Especially since only 4 teams we play had a defense ranked in the top half of the league last season. #1 Seattle, #11 Colts, #15 Packers, and #16 Texans. They're not all going to improve this year.

Kelly takes the tempo to an extreme and winds up wearing out his own team's defense just as much as the opponents.

You can still be 'up tempo' without overdoing it.

I agree completely.  However, we were much more effective in scoring when we pushed the issue a bit.

Work them hard but not kill them.

I'd be all for up-tempo.  Everything everyone has already said is exactly right; You can be up-tempo without wearing your players out.  Somewhere between normal and Chip style.  I'm sure there are stats out there somewhere for our hurry up offense and I'd be interested to see them because it does seem Cam absolutely excels at it.

I like a quick cadence with our offense. If we get ahead you can slow it down a bit as needed but moving at a heightened pace keeps the defense on their heels. Especially now with what looks like several threats on offense.

I have literally been begging for us to go no huddle for two years. But I also think we should switch it up depending on our opponent. What I mean is like green bay for example run no huddle non stop in the second and third quarters but in the first and forth they have heavy packages. Denver runs it the first half and then switch up in the second. With us I think in the first and third is ideal because we tend to be a much better team with a lead the only thing about that is we still have Ron and shula who love to sit on leads rather than expand them which lost us maybe 9-12 games since 2012.

I'd rather just abuse an opposing team like the Patriots do. Throw 50 times? Sure. Run 50 times? Sure. Have the flexibility to not have an identity that can be game planned against. We dictate pressure. That's my ideal.

no huddle is a part of that. We need to be good at everything and we are starting to have the talent to do it.

That's the attack Rivera envisioned when he first got here.

    • I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.
    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
