Thank god D.G picked Star instead of.....

Some on here complained that S.Richardson was and is better then Star. S.L has been an upstanding citizen and has and will be a dominating tackle for years to come. The above mentioned is now suspended four games and has been arrested for driving 143 mpg in his Bently and fleeing from police in July  with a minor in the car ( the news just hitting now).

D.G knew what kind of person and player he was getting in Star. Sure he had a down year last season,  but the guy is a beast and will come back strong. Good choice on our GM's part.

Aside from all this, from a football perspective he didn't really make much sense as a pick for us.  Generally in a 4-3 defense you have 1 space eating DT and 1 DT who is a little lighter and explosive.  We had desperately needed a big time space eating DT whereas we already had Dwan Edwards and were targeting Kawann short, so we already had a plan for the more explosive DT.

Basically what I'm saying is that say Sheldon and Star swapped teams/roles, neither would be playing as good as they are.

That's why the Jets are the Jets...also picked a guy named Hill a few years earlier. I  doubt D.G would have picked S.R if the Jets did pick Star....even if S.R was a top ten talent that was falling also like Star.

I don't think Star had a down year last year. He ended up having a +6.9 PFF grade. He also dealt with an ankle injury mid-season from the Eagles game. And you can't understate the absence of Greg Hardy. It took a while for our defense to adjust to that. Also, he started heating up towards the end of the season. He dominated vs the Falcons with 2 sacks and 7 tackles.

We learned our lesson with low-character first round picks in the 90s. I think our nearly spotless track record of first-round picks (both on and off the field) since then has proven us right in avoiding them.

    • Classic armchair QB, backseat driving.  Trying to insinuate that is was easy and obvious to see Bryce would struggle in the NFL based on his college career.   Most had him at 1 or 2 overall and I think I'd be very safe to say every team had him evaluated as a high 1st round pick. None of that really means poo but acting like it supports the "Truth" about Bryce is just disingenuous. I really like Bryce but I'm not blind. I can see the inconsistent play and problems but I also see more and more examples of elite play.   The best course of action is to pick up his option because of the shown continuing improvement (overall and independent of draft expectations), youth of the offense coaching staff and players.  Also, the lack of a better option in FA or next years draft.   I look it a little like poker.  This team lead by Canales and Young is the best hand we've been dealt in a decade.  I'm calling the bet but I'm not ready to raise.  I wanna see the river card first.  Stupid to fold this hand too soon.
    • I am out of things to say that haven’t been said 100 times.   If we buy him a Pro Bowl WR and a Pro Bowl TE and sign 5 really really short OL so he can see, and he still fails most weeks, will people finally give it up? If so let’s do that, please.
    • I am not one to poo your posts, and I actually agree with some of your theses, but all "The View" stuff and "Low T" stuff is over-the-top. We have an imperfect team, and though there's potential there, it isn't all sunshine. And the fact is, men and fans are going to disagree on the regular about the best way for the team to get to where it needs to be. No need for all that, because people could characterize others as "Low-T" for trying to blow sunshine up people's asses and getting nonplussed because they don't agree with you.
