Damiere Byrd Turning Heads

Sorry if this has been asked, but are referees at TC a new thing?  I'm not sure if I've heard of it, but I think it's a great idea; especially for those players without the playing experience.

They do it every year. Typically they go down and explain new rules and how they will be enforced etc

KB, Ginn, Brown and Funchess are locks. I'll venture to say Cotch is a lock because of our team wanting a vet. That leaves 1 or 2 spots open for Boykin, Bersin, Byrd to compete for. I'd say Bersin has a leg up on the other two and Byrd over Boykin based on potential, but there's still the rest of camp and preseason to decide. I'd love a WR group of KB, Funch, Brown, Ginn, Bersin, Cotch and Byrd. Not sure I want to keep 7 that seems pretty high but that group would be really solid. Or Byrd to the PS would be great but we'd have to hope no other team would s)natch him up.

Really feels like an 8-man race at this point: Benjamin, Funchess, Brown, Cotchery, Ginn, Bersin, Byrd, Boykin (I guess Presley could be a dark horse, but we may again stash him on the PUP). Think those top 6 make it, though in playing with lineups I could see scenarios where we keep 7. Byrd is most likely a Practice Squad player, I don't think anyone is gonna be plucking an undersized UDFA off our squad.

I understand everyone's rush to judgement on the possible roster spots at WR. I don't think or believe that the Panthers brought in the UDFA Paul Browning to fill a jersey. For what I understand and heard about the talent at the small DII Football Champions CSU-Pueblo in particular Paul Browning is not a rec to sleep on. He is a monster of a match up. oes not look like much at practice but is one of those game time guys and has a big chip on his shoulder underneath all that niceness that I am not buying.

When I read that he said "6 or 7" Byrd was the first person (and only person) who came to mind.

Byrd is explosive.

Instead of thinking, "Who is #1 WR, who is the #2, who is the slot..." start thinking "Who will be the most effective WR group vs. this particular group of DBs, who will be the best vs. the next team...etc."

Byrd gives this team a group of smallish speedsters (Byrd, Ginn, Brown) and a group of taller targets (KB, Funchess, Bersin) and a veteran possession guy (Cotchery).   Man, there are a lot of combinations possible.

Byrd may be groomed to return kicks/punts too.  Wonder how he would be as a gunner?  Etc etc etc.

Rivera's comment tells us everything about his mindset.  Good stuff, Jeremy.

    • I can say that I have defended Canales because I get that they are doing all they can to keep from looking like idiots for drafting Bryce, from the trade up to signing $150m guards to drafting XL and Brooks etc---nothing seems to work.  And Hiring Canales was part of the Bryce Young rehab program, so so he can't really decide to "move on."  That has to come from Morgan and Tepper. Personally, I think Bryce is due for an injury.  He is small, he is not thick, and he has been a LOT more healthy than most any other QB has who has endured so much pressure.  The thing that bothers me is this---Bryce really does not go through his progressions quickly.  He locks on to his presnap read and stays locked onto him for too long--he seems to fail to anticipate the WR/TE's positioning on the play before the cut--for example, if the WR is running a dig and the CB has his back to the inside of the field, he should be open for a second or less just after the cut.  He seems to wait until the cut has been made before deciding, then checking down quickly while moving in the pocket. OL:  There seems to be a lack of communication--is that on Mays?  Watch this team presnap--they seem a bit confused at times.   I can almost predict the success rate of the play by watching the center and QB before the snap.
    • Anyone else remember back in 2010 when Fox piloted having music under the in-game replays during one of Carolina's games? Not the commercial bumpers but the actual replay clips that the announcers would talk over. Pretty sure it was vs the 49ers. And it was terrible. Point being, Carolina continues being so bad that we get the networks trying things out during their games.
    • Is it bad I found this video more hilarious than pathetic? I am still laughing at that one play where half the people on the field ran into each other and Bryce still couldn't see Chuba wide open... Also laughing at Cade blocking nobody and somehow losing his cleat Man this offense is a poo show
