Left Tackle Daryl Williams?

I personally think Williams, Remmers and Oher should be rotated continuously at LT. It's a risky move but we gotta see who is more fit to play at that position for us. We're a run-first squad, so I definitely see Williams potentially playing LT for us. Look at Seattle's OL too. Okung is not a great pass protector either but he's great at run blocking.

not to harp on the size thing but Okung is a nice 310lbs. Though he only allowed one sack in 2014 he also fell off badly at the end of the year in run blocking. LT is hard to play.

thats why I said how many, you've listed 3 out of 32 and only two out of those are even over 320. Smith is 320, not over 320. The rest you listed come under 330. All the top guys like Veldheer, Albert, Staley, Thomas and Smith are all at or below 320. 

Williams' size at 335 couples with his lack of athletism is a disaster waiting to happen.

Ok, I am new at learning the game and Positions... what is the Main Differences between RT and LT? I mean they both block on the O Line depending on which side the block is coming from. I played Center in School.. I just know Center.

I think you're struggling with the concept. What you have is some random list of tackles in the NFL. 

My statement was how many TOP-RATED tackles are over 320? My list was closer to the top of the talent at the tackle position. If it's just about listing tackles you might as well add Byron Bell who sits at 340lbs.

I didn't see the presser afterwards, but did Rivera address this?  If so, what did he have to say?   Will we see more of this in the future? 

 

And, if we do, what does that mean for RT?  I assumed coming into camp that it was Remmers job, but then we have been working him at C as well.  I know that shouldn't mean much, but I think if you have a guy who is your RT, you're not giving him backup C reps in TC.

I understand the point you are trying to make.  I doubt anyone thinks he can be top tier right off, but, we only need him to be average at this point to make our line solid

I'm not going to pretend like I'm an expert in football but the main difference is the QB. A right handed QB will usually not quickly see someone coming from his left side because going through the throwing motion, his body is positioned in a way that he doesn't see guys coming from his non-throwing, left arm side. This teams usually put their best pass rusher on the QB's blind side, gambling he'll get there before the QB sees him.

if Cam was left handed we would be talking about an athletic RT.

This is just a discussion about the team we both love getting better so calm your tits. You responded to my submission without refuting what I said and now you're worked up about me pushing back? 

Can he be a diamond in the rough? Maybe. But just like size plays a role in every position played in the NFL, I'm only stating that Remmers might fit the mold better than the unathletic Williams.

This is great news.  Per the debate about weight, I totally forgot Bell was 340 lbs though.  Geez louise.

 

And if a 6'5 327 guy with the attitude, other measurables and a great college career to back it up looks adequate, let's roll with it.  Huge improvement over Bell (and possibly Oher) regardless.  

Also, It's better than Chandler getting thrown around like a rag doll (who really just needs to be a back up G/emergency T).  

I still find it interesting that we're so keen on Remmers at RT and backup C because if some people want to really dissect size and all of that, he's the most ideal LT frame on the team.  6'5, 310, great lb-for-lb strength, and has the arms/hands size you want.  Oregon State moved him to LT.  There just has to be a legit reason our staff wants these bigger guys on the left though.  I guess they're not worried about RDE speed rushers with Cam or something. I dunno.

It's quite possible that this is Gettleman's best draft class. Love Shaq for the future, Funchess' untapped potential, but Williams is quickly creeping to the top of my list of '15 draftees. I'd prefer seeing Remmers get time at LT and let the Williams-Turner duo steamroll the right side of the line all day, but whatever it takes to put the 5 best guys with chemistry together to win.

 

I'm totally behind the strategy we employed in this draft.  It really appears we have filled enough holes so quickly that we can trade away 2 or 3 picks to move up in the draft and get guys we believe are good enough to make our team.  I just don't see any guys drafted in the 6th or 7th round being good enough to help us, unless we get devastated with injuries.

some of those people he listed are top tier LT's.

are you expecting any rookie to come in and dominate? None of the top talent tackles that were drafted this year are doing well in camp this far. 

Look, I don't know if Williams is the answer or poo even if he will be given a shot. But talking about a 327lb guy can't play LT is naive. We just need someone to protect Cams blindside adequately. Cam can masks some things. But if Williams is serviceable I don't think DG will rest easier. He's still going to be looking for studs at all positions minus QB and MLB. I guess I don't really see what your point is? Gross was prototypically too short at 6'4" for some folks, but he made it work.
