Have any of you noticed a difference in Cams deep throws?

I didn't watch the game but I did see highlights. If I am not mistaken,  Cam added touch to his deep throws. The connection with Ginn Jr.  Even the play at practice a couple of days ago. If he had added that to his arsenal. Holy poo... Cam will be very dangerous with that alone. It could be because if his improved foot work?  I'm not sure but what I am sure of is that he never had touch in those throws before.

Actually I did notice a little more of this. Granted he was missing some of these long touch passes but he was trying it. I think Flutie/Wilson and others have proven it to be extremely effective in breaking down NFL defenses.

Patience people. Remember this thread. Because it will be important. Because people on this board freak out after a single series half the time.

Yes, he has improved the touch on his long ball. I too think it has to do with him feeling more secure on the pocket now that the revolving door is no longer playing left tackle for us. He has time to step into the throw and have better mechanics. Reminds me of his rookie season when he hit Smitty in stride down the middle of the field late on an absolute bomb. He's not necessarily adding this to his arsenal...he's just healthy and has a decent OL enough to make him feel safe and like he can trust them, so the long ball is coming back to him.

It's not the bombs that concern me (as you say,  he may be getting better),  it's those missiles over the middle that just might kill a ni---my bad, receiva---when Cam throws them high. Like @ItsPantone278 said in the other thread,  KB looked like he was going to be broken in half.

I just can't get rid of the box below while on my phone

yea, I noticed the same. Even the deep throw that was just beyond Brown looked like it was very well placed, just Brown seemed to slow down a bit expecting it to be a little short.

His long ball improved when he got several big targets to throw to and a speedy guy like Ginn. Amazing what talent will do to improve a quarterback. Cam didn't forget how to throw deep balls from his rookie year to now. The wide receiver talent level finally has improved to the point that it is easier for Cam to find targets and make the throws while being given time in pocket. His O line allowed him to focus downfield.

Wow.  NFL.com continues the Cam hate.  This is the only comment they make about the Panthers in their "What we learned from Friday's pre-season games" article:

2. Chalk up the glowing reports of Cam Newton's improved footwork to offseason trope. That's not to say Newton isn't a great player or a franchise quarterback. But he's still the same inconsistent upper-body thrower with accuracy issues as a passer.

    • Rico walking is no big deal. I'll take a healthy 2024 Hubbard over Rico any time and losing Mays is, again, no a big deal.  Young is signed for what, $35M for the next two years? Say he wants $50M but the FO doesn't. If they put the franchise tag on him, that would be around $55? So basically they are getting Young for the next 3 years for an average of $30M per year. Putting the franchise tag on him wouldn't be my first choice but it gives them an option that wouldn't be locking him into a long term, $50M contract. I'm not suggestion they do that. Just that the option will be there should they get to that point. Hunt is on a 5 year deal which is done in 28 so he either restructures or is gone anyway. Moton will be 35 by then and will either be gone or have diminished playing time. Neither of those players has anything to do with getting Young a contract. The O line is way overpaid anyway. Hopefully by the time they are gone, Freeling and Hecht will be developed and Ickey will be healthy. Young was benched his second year and only got his job back because Dalton was injured. Not sure how you can call that entitled. And I would NOT say putting a rookie QB on a team with no receivers, tight ends or O lineman and then being put with a coach who never wanted you and is fired mid season, is a definition of luck. As far as competition, no team is going to bring in competition for a QB picked first overall - especially given the capital that was given up to get him.
    • With apologies to Lady Cowboy fan, any day we can screw over the Cowboys is a GOOD day…
    • Been here since 2014ish. Good times. Its a shame Zod wont sell, it wouldnt take that much effort to get this place back into shape.
