Re-Drafting 2011

I personally think that J.J. Watt is the best individual player in the league, but there's no way I'd trade Cam for him.  No way.  It's a QB driven league.  You either have a QB that allows you to compete or you don't.  As much as the Texans love Watt, I bet they'd trade him straight up for Cam Newton if the opportunity presented itself.

Silly just plain silly.

How many times have the Texans won their division with Watt?

Who is the Texans QB?

Watt plays a 3-4 DE which would more than likely put him in KK's spot.

I dont know about yaw but I'll take Cam and KK over just Watt and possibly DA as our franchise QB.

I'd take Andy Dalton over JJ Watt if I was the GM of a QB needy team and I'm not even remotely kidding. QB is so much more important than any other position in the NFL and it's not even close.

The top 3 picks would be Cam to the Panthers then Dalton to the Broncos who did not have Manning at this point then Kaepernick to the Bills who haven't had a QB since Jim Kelly then Watt would go 4th.

Hypothetically taking Watt we would have used him as our DT, meaning either McClain or Fua doesn't get picked, which can only be an upgrade.. however it means going into 2011 Jimmy as QB.. 6-10 probably becomes 4-12 (I Assume rookie Cam was a 2 win upgrade over Clausen) and we pick 4 or 5 in 2012, still don't get Luck or RGIII and probably pick Tannehill.. so question is, who would you have: Watt at DT + Tannehill or Cam & Luke.. I'll take the 2nd option please, even if Fua or McClain is replaced with someone else (best case scenario Justin Houston, realistic scenario Chris Culliver)

I have little doubt there are plenty of GMs who would take Watt over Newton.

Watt is seen as an elite player.  Newton is still seen by most as more potential than production.

If you take Newton first, it's because you believe the quarterback position is more important, and a lot of GMs (including our own) do indeed hold that philosophy.

And for the record, Marty Hurney has stated plainly that if they'd have had the number one pick in 2002, the Panthers would have taken David Carr over Julius Peppers.

Knowing that, it's not hard to theorize that Hurney also would have taken Newton over J J Watt, even if it were known what J J was to become.

    • Ultimately it's up to the other safety prospects to clearly outplay Scott. I think when that happens on tape against other teams it'll be addressed. I think none of them have done that definitively and consistently yet.
    • Night and day difference in the front office investements.  Since Morgan has been in the FO (5 years)....4 out of 5 first round picks have been offensive players.  The one defensive pick was a corner. Expand it out to the first 2 rounds? 7 out of the 9 picks have been offensive.  That IMO is why our D sucks so bad.   You build defenses up front.   Carolina hasn't been investing there.  Ron's first 5 years? 3 of the 5 first round picks were defensive players.  Expand it all to include second rounders  7 of the 10 picks were defensive.  All front 7 players.
    • I think he gets this year to show what he can do.  Last year, we had a lot of injuries. This year, we should have some players, even if we lose one or two.  It's the first preseason game.  Some of the starters weren't even in it.  There is no scheming or game planning.  Let's see how guys do when it counts. I think we have a GM that knows a thing or two about defense.  Let it play out.
