Panthers trying out DE's instead of WR's

First Bowers, now Kendrick Ellis ( per J.Person). Ellis is one big S.O.B at 6'5 345#'s. So it appears they are sitting tight at the wideout position while trying to beef up the defensive line ( to the dismay of many on the huddle). D.G has a gameplan for this team no matter what anyone may think.....like it or not.

That's just not how the Huddle works.

Honestly when it comes to the way some of you feel about our WR position you're in the minority. Everyone outside of Panther land know we need an upgrade. The coaches know it too, there are probably reasons unknown to us fans as to why that hasn't happened. But on an otherwise strong roster, it's a glaring weakness.

He had a plan last year too and it failed all the way until week 14 when Remmers got a start.  If he thinks this team can endure another 7 week winless streak this season without having a full on revolt, he's wrong.  I'm willing to give this probable failure of a receiving corps a week or 2 without an attempted upgrade, after that though, all bets are off.

I'm sure WR continues to be high on the radar.  Philly's drops were AWFUL to watch.  But having just rewatched the Patriots game last night,  without the emotion and angst over the drops that I felt when watching them happen live, I was surprised how good some of the other throws and catches were.  Ginn & Cotch looked really sharp (Cotch left early of course with the groin pull), and Olsen was his amazing self, up to his career year standards of last year.  Ginn in particular could really have a big season, I think.

I'm also increasingly excited about Norwood when you think of who he's practiced against for the last year.  Seattle's Legion of Boom.  Awesome.  He's been tested by a GREAT defense.  Should bode well for him being a tough player and able to catch in traffic and under pressure.  Obviously they cut him for a reason, but I still think we'll be surprised how quickly he progresses.  Just a feeling really.  Don't have any hard data to back it up (smile).

Also watching CAP and Wegher (and Todman, and Fozzy) run both against the Pats and Pittsburgh... if the Pittsburgh game gives any meaningful indication of a strengthened run block for our Oline, that will help keep defenses honest and give a lot of help to our passing game.

Perhaps it's homer / rose-colored glasses, but I thought our offense looked pretty good against the Pats once you set aside Philly's awful drops.  If he continues to be awful he needs to be demoted / cut though I love his speed and how he gets open.  But for now, I think the no panic approach is ok.  Alot of course depends on if / how Shula adapts his game plans.  That probably is much more important at the moment than actually bringing in a new receiver.

Gettleman doesn't just walk around all day with shorts up to his nipples. He's fat not blind. He knows our WRs aren't great. The same way I'm sure he knew our OL situation sucked last year too. The question is what do you want him to do about it?

We could pick up some FA scrubs of what's left, or we could make a trade to get a legit talent. The trouble is any trade is going to be to our disadvantage since people know we're desperate. So our options are wait it out and hope for the best, or mortgage our future to hopefully make a difference this year.

It sucks. We know it sucks. The team knows it sucks, but don't act like they've got some magic WR button they're not pressing cause they're stupid.

    • I member him staying after practices with only to see he was wearing heavy weight vest, one of his trademarks. He also put in 10 years, right? People forget he was the ST stud that called the snap and made sure everyone lined up right. He was one of the "glue" guys that bought his "lunch pail" to work.... He was a willing solider, all teams need a couple of them. He blocked for sooo many panthers RBs- Davis, lane, Williams, foster, goings and when there was huge injuries he took over the starter duties and had a couple 100 yard games. If you followed hoover, he took the perfect RB path cause he was just a slow heavy one himself....
    • Walker likely depends on a couple of things. What exactly did Dan promise him, to start with.  How much other interest he actually had for a starter job at high pay is another question. It isn’t outside the realm of possibility that he could stay on as a swing tackle waiting to take Moton’s spot when it opens.    I can’t get myself to consider Icky as a viable anything until we see him back on the field.     Hunt seems to be a team player and good guy but I don’t think he is worth what he is being paid. I have him tentatively earmarked for cap causality in the near future.
    • Definitely epic tv..... A man who wont cheat for a poke dont want one bad enough.
