Carolina Panthers Most Underrated Player All-Time

So JOAT had a thread about the most underrated defenders in the NFL and it got me thinking about, for the Panthers, who the most underrated defensive player all-time would be. I went on to start to make a thread about and thought, hey why not just throw out your most underrated offensive player also. Now I want to be clear. This is all relative. While TD is underrated nationally, he wouldn't be underrated here. These are guys you think other Huddlers were/are going to be quick to forget.

Defensive -- Sherrod Martin FS

Dude was a 2nd round draft choice back in 2009. I forgot he went so high. 23 impressed me from the moment he stepped on the field. He got 2 INTs his first game starting. You didn't hear his name much because I think QBs weren't throwing to him. He went on to play for the Jags (fug them just because we're playing them this week) and the Bears.

Offensive -- Garry Williams OL

Not Gary Williams, the coach of Maryland basketball. Big 65 played O-line for the Panthers for the last 5 years. Some of you I'm sure know and appreciate his skills but he generally flew under-the-radar.  In 2009 he was the only undrafted rookie to make the Panthers active roster. Williams started 11 games in 2010 and was playing everywhere on the right side of the line for us and did pretty good. In 2011 he broke his ankle in the first preseason game. Ron said he was going to be the de-facto starter at Guard that year. Played all 16 games the next year and started in 9 of them. Torn ACL in 2013. Hip problems last year. So he was an injury flame-out but he was so cheap and so versatile. 

I may be biased because I happened to play a pick up game of bball Garry summer of '10 and I was impressed with his athleticism, especially for his size. He could move and he could shoot.He walked up cold and first ball he touched he drilled a trey. I said, Iz Y0|__| a PANTh4RZ PL4YA?

Underrated on Defense, I'd say Ricky Manning Jr. Without him we might not have won the 2003 NFC Championship.

All-time? Patrick Jeffers or Will Witherspoon

Defensive, I'd say either Ricky Manning Jr or Spoon. Both were phenomenal for us.

Offensively, I'd say Ricky Proehl. Without question. He was under-appreciated...until he was done. Then everybody realized what a playmaker he was.

People will hate it, but I will say Sean Gilbert. Despite giving up too much for him, which wasn't his fault, he still currently is in the top 3 DTs statistically in Panthers history.

all he did was put up video game numbers behind one of the worst O lines in history, only to be shipped off for a nobody to come in and lose his job to a 29 year old rookie.

Most underrated of all time was Chris Gamble. He was the quiet shut down corner. Early in his career, he was an interception machine and later on, opponents just quit throwing at whoever he was covering. He never made a big deal of his skills, wasn't a trash talker, he just quietly went out and took care of business.

the fact that gamble never made a pro bowl is some bullshit.  if you check out his advanced statistics his passer rating when thrown at was comparable to guys like revis near the end of his career.  he was arguably a snub in 2005 too.

he got out of the league on his own terms with his health in tact and was well prepared for the rest of his life thanks to careful planning which is great in and of itself.
