The Texans Are Already Wearing Their Rose Colored Glasses

lmgdao...

The only way that the Texans have a chance to score more than 10 points is if we let Derek Anderson suit up for them at QB.

The fact that the first couple of arguments they have revolve around Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett tells you all you need to know about the Texans this season.

Hopefully our oline can protect cam, OR J J will go yum yum yum

If Shula were smart, we'd have some designed pass plays moving AWAY from the direction that JJW is bringing pressure from.  Cam throws pretty well on the move (remember that critical completion yesterday after he almost got sacked).

I've never understood why Shula doesn't take more advantage of that ability with run-pass options.

But... Shula.

Kink there is that the Texans allow Watt to vary where he lines up.

Makes it tougher to adjust to him.

If we win this game it won't be pretty. I'm thinking something like 16-13 Panthers.

If we are going to win our O is going to have to find ways to stay on the field and move the chains. If our defense tires I can see us letting this one slip away in the 4th with our way too conservative play calling.

Kansas City happens to be very good.

If anyone thinks this week against the Texans is going to be easy they're doing what Panther fans tend to do.

Set themselves up for the usual season roller coaster depression/disappointment.

I hope the players don't think for 1 second they've got this. I expect a tight game into the 4th quarter.

Anyone who thinks any win with a Shula offense on one side of the ball will be "easy", they haven't been paying attention to the proven Shula track record.

The Houston Texans--That is all they could come up with?  Not "Bandits" or "Outlaws" or even "Rangers."  The Texans.  The place where the city is located.  We are all aware that one who lives in Houston is from Texas, and people who are from Texas are called "Texans" among other things.  However, I doubt 95% of the players are from Texas, so the team name is as stupid as the Buffalo Bills, where the majority of the players are probably not named Bill.  I think Nike designed a jersey that had the major zip codes of Houston sewn into the striping.  Their logo is not a Texan, however, it is a Longhorn cow or bull or something, with a star for an eye.  Probably because most Houston season ticket holders are actually Texas Longhorn fans who could not afford Dallas Cowboy tickets.  I mean, if you play in the state of Texas, keep the cows and the Stars off your helmet if you want an identity of your own.  Are not the Cowboys and their fans already "Texans"?  Was this some cheap ploy to, on paper, steal their fans?  Or did the Texans say, "Since Dallas is now America's team, let's be Texas' team!"

Basically, they are the younger step-sibling, a product of a bad marriage and a nasty custody battle that saw the real Houston football team leave for the music city.

I can't imagine what kind of self-esteem issues one must have to live in Texas and root for the team simply because you are not just a fan, you are also the mascot.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
