Saints are in full meltdown mode

Anyone who has followed this division for years knows how these teams generally play each other. Either there will be a blowout, or a game that goes down to the wire.

Hard to obviously know which Saints team we will get. But they beat us in our house last year. Just comes down to applying basic common sense.

OK, that's rational.

But that doesn't explain to me why (as you told me) *I* shouldn't underestimate them.

What does MY underestimation of them matter?

Not even saying I am underestimating them.  But if I chose to do so, what difference would it make?

I don't mean to be rude here, but didn't you begin to follow the team around the time we drafted Cam?

Four years is not a whole lot of time to truly understand the rivalry. Just saying.

The horse is dead. Just stop.

jacksonville also just put down a miami team that's supposed to be stacked and looked a million times better than the panthers on paper

Yeah, I saw quite a few 'experts' picking the fins to win their division, and they were as high as 8 in power rankings after game one.

Again you refuse to answer my question.

I guess I can't get an answer because you don't think I'm a "real" fan?  It's a simple question really: How does the underestimation of *a* fan effect the outcome of a game between two professional teams?  I'd appreciate an answer even if you do have very little respect for me.

(P.S. If you don't think I despise the Saints, you must not be knowledgeable as to who my PREVIOUS team was.  I know I was hating the Saints before the Panthers were a gleam in Charlotte's eye.  And probably before you were even born.)

murphy.0.0.gifDunno if it's been posted but this gave me the lols

For those keeping score at home, #40 is cornerback Delvin Breaux. He has the distinction of being one of the few NFL players to not play college football. He played Arena and CFL for the last few years before getting a shot with New Orleans.

And with a name like that, he was probably born to play for the Saints.

Where exactly did I say that a fan underestimating the Saints would directly affect the outcome?

If you're interpreting things from my original post that simply aren't there, that is on you, not me.

Well, if underestimating them has no affect, why did you say:

 TheRed said:

I know things are looking bleak for the Saints right now, but I wouldn't underestimate them.

Why create a prohibition against something you are admitting has no affect?

Seems odd to me.

If you're reading that post, then you're also reading the part where I clearly said I wouldn't.

I merely gave my own personal opinion. If that's too much for you to fathom, well, alright.

I'll have a pissing contest over semantics if the topic is deemed worthy. But the Saints? Come on dude. It's 10 in the morning. Lighten up.

The Saints went "all in" at the end of a HOF QB's career.

I totally get it, but they will have to pay the piper at some point, it's either going to be this, or next year when it gets really bad for them.

We, on the other hand, are building a team the correct way.  Taking notes from Pitt and Green Bay.  Get your QB, draft well, and stay out of salary cap hell by not over spending on FA's.

If they fail to reach the playoffs it'll mean new gm, new coach and new qb... They'll go into complete rebuilding mode

Surprisingly, they can cut Brees as a June 1 cut and come out pretty good.

They are stuck paying Cam Jordan and Byrd a ton of money, as well as Lewis.  So I guess that would be your core as a Saints team moving forward.

Not good.

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
