What are the chances we get a "pretty" win on Sunday?

I'm not sure we do "pretty" just yet - at least not for a whole game.  The HOU game did have some very pretty / fun plays with the 3 TDs of course being the most memorable.  Those 2 passes to Ginn & Brown were beauties and the flip just beyond words really...

I'll gladly take another win like that though I'd love us to blow out the Saints.

Yesterday over at Sporting Charts I was looking at a lot of our season averages compared to prior years.  On a lot of stats so far we're looking really good  (see my comments and links to graphs here).  But there was one graph where we are at an all time low (bad) level, and I think that's what's contributing to the "UGLY" factor of both our wins.  Here's what I posted yesterday on the Week 2 Stats thread:

Yards per Playhttp://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/teams/364/carolina-panthers/#Yards per Play

UGH.  We're down near 2010 levels at 4.38 yards per play.  This is probably the worst of all the graphs / stats I've looked at today, and I imagine it's what's contributing to all the "those were UGLY wins" talk.  The yards we are grinding out have been really hard fought.  It's taking a lot of wear & tear to move short distances.  This is an area it would be really good to see improve.

We're really currently fighting hard for most every yard.   But I'll take a win no matter how we get it.

Since I know some won't bother to click on the link above, here's the graph of yards per play for 2015 to date compared to prior Panthers seasons.   From here:

The final point is for 2015, currently a yards per play average of 4.38 yards / play.  Ouch.

If we play well, the entire game is going to look like the third quarter against the Jags.  Our defense will harass the hell out of Brees, and our offense will march slowly and methodically down the field.  I expect us to shoot ourselves in the foot a few times with penalties, and there's no way we pitch a shut-out, but a 20-14 or a 27-14 score with 200+ yards rushing just feels about right against these guys.

    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
    • I don't think Canales has any problem benching Bryce or moving on if Bryce doesn't come out playing like the end of last year.  It's year 3 no more excuses for Bryce
    • Yea Bryce was definitely a top half qb the second half of last season but I'm not sure Canales is 100% sold on him.  Like I've said in another post I think that's part of why we talked to so many South Carolina players in the draft process.  I think they are doing early due diligence on Sellers just in case.
