Official Panthers - Bucs Gameday Thread

Who: Carolina Panthers vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Where: Tampa, Fl

When: 1:00

TV: FOX

I will be tweeting from the field starting around 11am with photos and observations. Follow @CarolinaHuddle on twitter.

Keys to Panthers Victory:

- Tackling must improve over last week.

- Keep Winston in the pocket and force him into mistakes. An interception or two will be the result.

- Jared Allen must fill the void left by Charles Johnson.

- Greg Olsen will need to continue to impress as he will be the only receiver on the field getting extra attention.

Prediction:

Bucs - 17

Panthers - 20

I want to see us get a lot of pressure from the D line today. If we can't get pressure against the Bucs terrible O line, we might not get pressure on any team this year. I'm really excited to see Jared Allen do some serious work.

Prediction: Panthers 27 Bucs 9

Go Panthers!

Curious if we will see any blitzing today.  Panthers have mainly been going with pressure ( or lack of)  from the front four.

For Carolina to win I am looking for them to do three things better than last week:

1. Better run blocking from the O-line to control the clock and tire the Bucs out.

2. Cut out the mental mistakes on third down.

3. Even though Carolina plays mostly zone on defense, slightly more man coverage to confuse Winston would buy a bit more time for the pass rush.

I don't feel like the Bucs are as bad as everyone in the media says they are.  I don't believe they are winning but I think this will be quite the dog fight at the beginning.  Tampa like New Orleans has something to prove against a tough division opponent.  I don't see it being enough.

I'm interested in the match up of Josh vs Vincent Jackson.  We all know how great Josh is but VJ is 6'5" and has great ball skills.  I'd like VJ if he didn't play for TB.  Will they send double teams to VJ or has Josh proven that he can handle him one on one?  I think Josh has and don't see VJ getting much more than 60 yards total.

The team has gone through a lot this week with changes on the defensive line and saying goodbye to a couple of familiar faces. The weather here has been terrible as well, and even though the game is in Florida, those NC practices have probably been pretty wearing and not as complete as they normally would.

We're playing a team that hasn't been a threat in some time and that many are regarding lightly. They've also got a rookie QB and an apparently soft offensive line.

And that's why we have a tough game ahead of us. We're trying to mesh new moving parts under less than perfect conditions while facing up against an opponent that shouldn't give us trouble. It's a classic trap game.

I hope that's not going to be the case. My gut feeling is that we're going to come out and fall behind early, then dig in and claw our way back to a tight win. Look for a repeat of last week, but a closer score. Whereas Nawlins had a great day passing and a lousy day on the ground, Tampa will run well but their passing game will be their downfall.

Carolina 23 Tampa Bay 18

Has there been a prediction thread?  If so, I missed it.  In any case, I predict we'll win.  Think the team is really wanting to go into the bye 4 - 0 and will make it happen.  I hope we can get a lead early and hold it, and win by at least 10.  I'll predict Panthers 24 - 13.  A lot depends on how the Dline plays and how well we can pressure Jameis.

This game will show what the Bucs are made of.  I'm anxious to see.  Weather will play a factor, especially if the wind picks up.  Kind of thinking the Bucs may have a better ground game than us.  Hopefully I'm wrong on that.  RB's must bring the A game.  I'd also like to see some Payne in the mix.  He may not be active though.

    • I am trying to remember when I EVER said reach for need. My thing if someone falls you jump, if you can trade back a few slots and get help at the right value and pick up some ammo to move up from 51 which I think is outside the money zone, then you do that.   Take a WR later. Plenty of capable WRs have come from the 3rd round. Though this year I would go for C there if there was a reasonable choice. Take a TE if you must. I see more reason to take WR than TE. I think you give guys drafted two years ago and last year a chance to develop before cancelling them.    I think it is kind of unrealistic to throw everything all in on offense in hopes of going deep in the playoffs after an 8-10 year, even if it did have some nice bright spots in it.    And outside of this argument but relevant to it, I am bothered by Canales and Morgan and their apparent posture that we have arrived and are now in the big boy club. I don’t know where that comes from. They are out there talking like they are winners at 8-10. Backing into the playoffs in a real convoluted tie breaker scenario. They had some good games, yes. But the big feather n the cap, the LA Rams matchups, did you see what the Rams did? They didn’t fire the coaches but they fired their defensive backs. Bryce beat them yes, and it was pretty, but it was kind of like the Bucs and Mike Evans picking on our decimated secondary in 2022. Someone (Wilks) went down for allowing that to happen and they went down in LA too.  Wr aren’t as good as a whole lot of homers think we are. Shore up the trenches.    I think too many fans buy into it because they are so starved for anything that looks like a winner.
    • How exactly does one win OROY "by default"? Wouldn't winning the award mean that of the two, McMillon stayed strong the entire year while the other guy didn't and fizzled out? That's like saying Secretariat only won by default because the other horse stopped moving midway through the race. Absolutely zero logic in that statement, which makes me very glad that I've never really paid much attention to Walterfoozball.
    • I agree, teams in the past have fired the HC in order to retain a coach on staff...hell it happened to Mcderp this year, rams in the past and Im missing another.  The fall off for the Panthers team defense was huge once Mcderp leftd and Ron could not fix it even when he named himself DC.
