The NFL needs to do better by its players and staff. This MRSA thing obviously needs to be tested for on a regular basis.

I hate this for him.  Irrespective of who you play for, it is a shame to see a man lose the ability to feed his family due to something like this.

People are the primary MRSA vectors, with about 2% of the population being carriers of one or more of the actual MRSA strains. It's impossible to be 100% sure that athletic facilities are always bacteria-free since so many people come in and out, but I completely agree that there was likely a failure of injection and wound care protocol that put him at risk. The NFL (and all sports teams in every sport and at every level for that matter) definitely needs to take another hard look at cleaning protocol for locker rooms and training facilities. Infection control is not difficult but it does require constant diligent effort.

FWIW, torn ACLs are generally non-fatal and aren't known to require life-altering action such as amputation.

I wonder if they can do some type of nightly "fogging" for this type of thing nightly when everyone is out of the locker rooms?
