Ron and the Panthers Locker Room

Probably going to regret wasting my time responding to this later, but some of you are clueless.  I'd much rather have a Ron Rivera than a Joe Phillbin.  If you don't think these guys would run thru a wall for him just listen to some of their interviews. I'd much rather him foster a atmosphere of respect and admiration, than fear and resentment.

this is why i think Ron Rivera will take this team to great heights. he is a good dude and a great coach. he just needed time to settle in and gain some experience. be excited Panther fans! Gettleman, Rivera, Cam, Luke, TD, Olsen, Benji, Norman, KK, Star, Shaq, Norwell, Turner, Remmers, Bene... that is a great core, and a great mix of leadership, experience, and youth/fresh blood.

this team is going places!

The Age of the Panther is nearly upon us!

Probably already been said, but I think Ron has an edge over the average "players' coach" because he actually played in the NFL. He understands the locker room in a way that few other head coaches do, and while he makes himself present and available he doesn't tread on the natural dynamics and chemistry and he doesn't let his presence soften his judgment (though, as noted, some judgment could be improved overall). If it had a negative impact, I'm sure he'd remove himself.

I'm sure I could look it up online somewhere, but does anyone know off the top of their head how many current head coaches also played in the league?

Axtually, I read the numerous articles where players complained about Harbaugh, and I watched his team decline.

Tom Coughlin is another example.. He was nearly booted from his job before he finally agreed to lighten up.. The Giants Super Bowl trophies under him came only after that.

See also: Greg Schiano, Jon Gruden

That's an interesting take being that many of his former players all decided to retire after he left. Many players openly praised him when he left as well.

It's fine to disagree and have your own belief, but trying to belittle someone by saying see other coach that has nothing to do with the current convo is kind of Bush League from such an esteemed and well regarded poster.

There are plenty of other stories saying the same thing.

I'd also point out that players saying nice things about him after he was gone doesn't hold much water. That's an easy thing to do.

Great point - I was thinking of Richardson being the only owner who played in the NFL.  The group is still small though - Jason Garrett, Jeff Fisher, Jack Del Rio, and Ken Whisenhunt look like the only other ones.
