Who was better.. Kuechly or Beason in his prime and pre injury?

It's been posted, but another vote for 'Luke is a godly MLB, but Beason was damn good himself'. Carolina hasn't gone into a season with anything less than a Top 5 MLB since Lester Towns/Dean Wells in 2001.  Morgan and Beason had their share of injuries, but they were elite players when healthy and Luke is Carolina's latest elite MLB.

now this is a cool question because they play in such different eras. The nfl might as well be a different game compared to the early 2000s.

I will say this: Dan Morgan was the most physically dominant player that has put on a panthers uniform. Just inhuman.

He also had the best game a panther had ever had period. There were five of him on the field in the super bowl. If they'd won that game he would have been mvp.

Delhomme would have won it.

Beason was Patrick Willis before there was a Patrick Willis. Injuries ended that high level of play.

With th that being said Luke straight up stole best ILB from Willis in his rookie year and hasn't looked back since. Getting Luke at 9 overall was probably the best pick of the 2012 draft which is one of the more awful draft classes of the past couple years but he is the lone bright spot. Thanks hurney for the parting gift

Not sure why everybody is being so mean to the topic creator.

Any way, I'd give a slight edge to Jon Beason. He was better at getting a turnovers. Wish he would have stayed healthy.

Luke is a more consistent tackler but there are a lot games where that's all you get.

No need to disparage either guy, both were fantastic and I'm thankful we had both.

We have been blessed with MLB since we drafted Morgan.

Beason was originally drafted as an OLB coming out of Miami and was an absolute stud there. Then Morgan's damn concussions finally caught up with him and we moved Beason to the middle to take over. Beason was always undersized at 6 feet even but played with heart and motor that few posess. He was a damn good player for us.

Luke is better, but how many MLB's in history is Luke not better than?

Dan Morgan should always be remembered as one of the Panther greats as well. Dude was an absolute stud for us and played laid it all out on the field, as evidenced by his concussion problems. I love all 3 of them and don't care how you rank them.

We've been blessed at MLB since inception. Sam Mills, Michael Barrow, Dan Morgan, Jon Beason, Luke Kuechly. We've always had great MLBs.

I like Beason, but he was no Kuechly. Kuechly, if he stays at this high a level for most of his career, will go down as the best Panther ever.

The comparison of Beason to Muhammad and Kuechly to Steve Smith was a great one. It's no slight to Moose to say that 89 was obviously better just like it's no slight to Beason to say Kuechly is obviously better.

Beason was a top 5 LB every year. Luke is the best LB in the NFL. I thought Beason was an amazing tackler until I witnessed the greatness of Luke, who outclasses Beason in every facet of the game. There is no one with Keuchly's ability to be around the ball and make tackles at the rate that he does.

Someone on our team: "He's the best in the league!"

That same pleayer leaves: "He was overrated, not even good as our backup."

That player has a good game: "We should've never let him go!"

/Huddle Logic

Oddly enough, we also have the flipside.

For some, players that are subpar here suddenly become all pros that we never should have let go as soon as they sign somewhere else.

    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
    • The fact that this is even a discussion is a testament of the level of front office badassery that's going on.
    • Not always. LT was for the Giants. So was Ray Lewis. Von Miller was moreso than Manning his final year in the season that shall not be named. It's usually the QB, but not always.
