In most instances I think Newton is a tool, but he makes a few pretty decent points about the stark differences between us and the Skins.

Quote

Ownership

Carolina owner Jerry Richardson lets his coaches coach. He stays out of the way. Washington owner Daniel Snyder put himself in between Shanahan and Griffin. He felt the best way to ensure the long-term health of Griffin was to change his playing style, to make him more of a pocket passer. Shanahan reportedly felt Snyder's interference undermined his ability to coach Griffin. Shanahan eventually benched Griffin early in December 2013. Snyder fired Shanahan later in the month. Gruden was hired to implement his West Coast philosophy that -- as mentioned above -- didn't fit Griffin.

Defense

Newton has been complemented by a top-10 defense since 2012. This has put less pressure on him having to put up huge numbers and carry the team, although early in his career trying to do too much hurt him. Washington's defense ranked 28th in the NFL during Griffin's rookie season and was 18th in 2013. Griffin was asked to carry the load for a team giving up 29.9 points in 2013. The Panthers ranked second defensively in 2013, giving up 15.1 points a game. That's when Newton and the Panthers began winning, going 12-4 that season.

Stability

This incorporates several things above. Newton has been under Rivera since Day 1, and Rivera has been committed to making Newton his franchise quarterback. Newton has worked with Shula since Day 1, first as his quarterbacks coach and then his offensive coordinator. He has worked for an organization committed to being balanced on offense, defense and special teams. He's been with an organization that showed patience during his first two seasons that were 6-10 and 7-9. Griffin has been under two different staffs. He's been on a team that has won only 11 games since his rookie season, when the Redskins were 10-6. He's been with an organization that has had only three winning seasons since a 10-6 record in 1999. He's been with an owner who isn't patient. It hasn't been a recipe for success.

How about:

1) Newton was a better/more committed pocket passer (and overall football student), who didn't need gimmick schemes, and a strong run games to be successful, the moment he came into the league

2) No matter what people may want to think of Cam; he's eminently coachable, and seeks to get better. For all we hear/heard of RG3; he is not, and already felt he made it!

It's not just the organizations. It's the individuals as well.

If RG3's lightweight ass had taken half of the beating Cam has since coming into the league he wouldn't be able to feed himself and wipe his own ass.

The biggest knock on the guy coming into the this was his durability and people weren't wrong.

    • You bring up a good point on the stability part and i would agree that probably will factor into it. But yes, Tepper does have a strong influence on who stays/goes but I still believe ultimately it'is Morgan, Tilis and Canales who will decide.
    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
