The history of this franchise shows they value the front 7 more.

History shows that the Panthers have paid whoever has stepped up and become top players in the league like any other team. That just so happens to be mostly front 7 players because most of our top draft picks have always been used on front 7 guys. So it makes sense thats where the priority specifically has been. Norman is a top player and they also drafted him so i dont think his situation is necessarily the standard we are accustomed too.

This helps explain so much.. Should have been figured out by our local writers

i was always confused about some of the things Norman would say in an interview. Him channeling a character helps understand what the crap he was saying.

I still think he is borderline crazy but using a character to get mentally focused for a challenge is great..

There was a long profile piece on JNo done by a local reporter (but not one of the main Charlotte beat writers) which talked about J-Nos past - living on the couch at his brothers, and went into his love of acting, and how he had to give up acting for football.  I'll see if I can find the link.  But  yes, understanding J-No's passion for movies helps put a lot of what he says into context.

Here's the profile piece on Norman by Jack Flager in the Gaston Gazette:

http://www.gastongazette.com/article/20151007/NEWS/151009085

Quote

Josh when he first got there to Coastal he wanted to major in theatre, and he tried it,” said former Coastal Carolina coach David Bennett. “What he found out was that majoring in theatre was a full-time gig … He had to miss stuff playing football - when he changed his major, the football field became his stage.”

And from a Charlotte Observer article the same week:

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/carolina-panthers/article38118984.html

Quote

Panthers coach Ron Rivera and others have noticed how much Norman likes the spotlight.

On Wednesday, Norman explained why: He minored in dramatic arts at Coastal Carolina, and would have majored in it but football practices kept getting in the way of the plays and rehearsals.  [...]

Norman gave up his acting aspirations in college but views the football field as a stage, not unlike the heroes in the gladiator movies he loves.

“Win the crowd,” Norman said, “you win the day.”

So not sure what's going on with these vertical lines of characters...

But this made me LOVE JNo that much more!

On how we can afford to pay him, I'd ask can we afford not to?

Norman is a shutdown corner.  He's a home grown player.  He is a leader on the team.  He wants to stay here.  He would be comfortable becoming a face of the entire state.  He's very popular in the locker room, and he's paid his dues to the team.

If we let him walk, what does that say about how a players contributions are valued?  Everyone can understand if he get's a 10 year, $200 million from some insane team like Washington or other reckless spender.  But if we let him walk for fair market value, and we have the money to do it, that's going to be a blow to the locker room.

At worst, we franchise him this year, and see about another deal.  I do think Gettleman will make his best offer early and let Josh decide what he wants to do.  I'd love to see him come back for a few more years, but $20 million a year is awful steep.

Sorry about the veritical characters.  I forgot to take out the Observer's hidden embedded "read more" link.  It only shows up after you post the comment.  I remember 9 times out of 10 to go back and edit it out, or first copy into Word or something...., but this a.m. I forgot.

It is SO annoying....

Apologies.

First comment after that excellent article is some guy suggesting Bruce Lee from Enter the Dragon. Awesome suggestion. Since we actually have a line to Josh through Jeremy, what other suggestions can you guys come up with? I'd also suggest maybe Scarface, but since Josh likes fantasy type movies I'm not sure what movie he hasn't already covered. Maybe Lord of the Rings but none of those characters really seem to fit.

It's getting hard to imagine the Panthers without Josh.  He is such a character, and yet seems such a key part of this team.  Last year I didn't understand him and thought he was too immature.  This year he seems to have blossomed, and his personality adds so much to the character of the team.

PLEASE Get it done Getts.  If he were just some free agent I'd not feel so strongly, but as a home-grown Panther, this is a guy we need to keep.

    • Kyler murray signed a 5 year 230 million dollar deal after his 4rth season (2022) where he made the playoffs once in those 4 years and played abysmal   His average, including injuries for those 4 years are below: 66% 21tds 3500yards 92qbr   Fast forward to Nov 2025  https://www.si.com/nfl/kyler-murray-cardinals-parting-ways-likely-imminent?utm_source=firefox-newtab-en-us Hes owed roughly 50 and 40 million against the cap for the next 2 years.  fuging nuts, you are essentially tying your hands behind your back and trying to compete I could do Tua as well but you guys get the point.   In closing, please for the love of God Teppers please dont put this franchise in a blender by extending Bryce.
    • Sure we could use an edge rusher or two but the rookies are doing well for rookies. Saying edge rusher is as much of a need as QB is preposterous. We could need to bring back Everette Brown as a starting rusher and it still wouldn’t be as big a need as QB.
    • The way I look at it: pie: good point, I agree, general positive reaction  beer: cheers. Can be regarding a positive thing or negative. “Here’s to another year being held back by our QB play.” “Cheers” fire: a hot take I agree with, or a great point. Upgrade from pie.  eggplant: that gets me hard. Not you want to give that poster the D, but like if you’re someone who really appreciates good defense and someone posts a stat that our defense is top ten then you post the eggplant emoji
