Should Panthers pursue Murray?

1.  You can't trade 28.  No team will trade for it.

2.  Murray is about the same age and has been a fragile RB overall.

3.  So....why do we want what we already have? Stewart IMO is the best power runner outside of AP if you don't block for RBs.   Murray needs holes.  He can be more explosive but 28 can do more with nothing than almost everyone

The biggest knock on Stew by most fans is his durability, right?  Well, Stewart has played in 82.2% of his eligible regular season games.  Murray?  84.4%.  Virtually a wash.  Stewart has played in 100% of games for 3 of his 7 NFL seasons.  This could be his 4th.  Murray?  Only 1.  17 of Stew's 24 missed games came in the back to back '12-'13 and '13-'14 seasons.  Long story short, Stew's durability concerns are overblown.  They were largely the result of back to back injury plagued seasons and the fact that for much of his early career he was often held out of practices.  If you look at their careers as a whole, Stew is the more reliable back in terms of durability.

Plus, Stewart is on the back end of a big money deal.  We're near the end of the tunnel on that one.  While Murray may have had a rough season in Philly, if he's cut, he's still going to get pretty good money from someone because I think the majority of people believe that Chip Kelly is trying to fit a square peg in a round hole with Murray in his offense.  I think we're done with big money RBs.

I'm in the "Keep Stew a lifelong Panther if possible." boat.

That being said, the blind hate on Murray in this thread is ridiculous. In what world do people live in that DeMarco Murray is just average? The guy is a great running back. Period. There's only a few RBs in this league that have a combination of Size, Speed, Power, and Vision, and Murray is one of those. It's not that evident this year, but watching the cuts and explosion he has over the past few years really shows he's far above average. That's just a fact.

As far as trading/signing him? No way. The thing about our running game, is we don't really need a big money, all world back. We could put any hard-running power back in our backfield and be just as successful. Stewart is a great guy, and a great back, but he's not all-world or anything.

Size, power, speed?  Sure.  But when has Murray ever shown elite vision as a runner?  The two seasons he went for over 1000 yards were both behind an elite OL playing with an elite QB.  That's a best case scenario.  He had an amazing year last season, but it was a fluke.  He got all those yards by carrying the ball 392 times.  That's nearly double the number of carries he'd ever had before.  Plus, history is not kind to RBs who go over 300 carries in a season.  They usually fall of a cliff afterwards.  Adrian Peterson being the notable exception.

murray is a good running back, not an elite one... some would say overrated... i would just say he's a good back who over achieved last year behind a great OLine and a ridiculous number of carries. CAP and Wegher are the panthers future at the running back position. It's nice to know that our next group of running backs are already on our team and safely on the shelve...that's how nipple shorts rolls!

90% likely he wont be with the eagles next year.   Trade stew while you can still get something for him and pick up a guy 3 years younger who runs just as hard?  I think he wants to go back to Dallas though.

Thoughts? (please.. spare us the doom and gloom talk about talking about trades during the season, its a business)

Trade a proven team player who for a guy who puts himself before the team? You've got to be kidding, right? And Stewart has produced more yards this year, so far, right? And because of the Double Trouble rotation, Stewart has more experience but less wear and tear on his body than Murray.

Star player cast offs from Dallas rarely pan out, too.
