Buying a new laptop....need some advice.

Title pretty much says it, but I will add a little more info.

Haven't needed to buy one for a very long time, ipads and work laptops have sufficed, but no longer.

Won't be playing any heavy duty games, doesn't need a ton of storage, would like for it to be a "normal" size for typing and work purposes...etc.

Pretty much looking for something that I can work from home with, put all of our pictures on, and wife can do whatever she does on pinterest or whatever the hell that thing is called.  I have owned HP and Dell, but don't have any brand preference.  Would like to spend as little as possible, and still get a decent machine....and no, I don't want to buy a mac.

That's kinda what I'm looking at, just was hoping to find something closer to the $500 range.

I know you said it but once you get a Mac you won't go back and they last forever.

if you have other apple products it's even better.

for what you want honestly a Mac would be perfect, they last a really long time and generally you get great customer service if your in the area of an apple store. 

but if you don't want a Mac, I would suggest a cheaper gaming laptop. I got my Lenovo ideapad for around ~800 dollars on a sale and it works FANTASTIC

my advice is stick with either A-8 or i5 and above.  Dont cheap out if you plan on keeping this for awhile.  Look for laptops that have ssd drives which will cut load times and make your laptop run faster.  You can tell by the drive size 128gb, 256gb (ssd) vs 120gb, 250gb (non ssd).  Once you have a few laptops in mind. I would suggest purchasing it from an online site such as newegg to save tax.  Otherwise if the place you get it from offers a squaretrade warranty get it.  You can also purchase the warranty separately from squaretrades website. Also look for dell refurb coupn codes.  They normally have 40-50% off their refurbished laptops.  You can get a really good laptop for about what you would pay for a crappy one locally.

Give this one a look. A few family members whose needs are like yours have gotten it and been very happy.

I own a business with 10 or so employees, all on laptops.  We've been buying used, but refurbs from Ebay for around $500.  All come with clean installs and never had a problem with reliability or performance. 

 

For $500, that is my suggestion.
