Our front 4 is living off its past glory. We don't have a pass rush this year.

We have to blitz to apply pressure, and that's a gamble especially against great QBs

ding ding ding

this is also why we'll make sure we keep kawann short before josh norman but that's for an entirely different conversation.

Really? That same offense that put 35 points up did nothing for 20 plus minutes of game time.

I don't give a rat's behind if the offense doesn't do anything for 55 minutes. 35 points was on the board. This front office built this whole team around a defense that is supposed to hold any opponent under 20 points.

Our first round pick yet again was on defense; we spend a disproportionate amount of resources overall on defense; every time a defensive player goes down, the front office immediately goes and either trades or signs a replacement.

Shula, Newton, and the rest of the offense is LITERALLY working with a return specialist as their No. 1 WR and a taped up oline. This defense has got to do better. Never should a defense this heavily invested depend on a fairly talent-less offense to score 35+ points in order to win.

But then again, I am probably talking to one of the many posters on the Huddle that likes to scream about the offense during the season, meanwhile is perfectly happy with the front office not upgrading said offense in the off season.

It's one thing: lack of pass rush.

Our defense is designed around the principle of a pass rush, especially when up big late in games, that forces turnovers (see K.K. pressure on Eli and Tillman's INT) and keeps the secondary from being exposed. We simply don't have that right now, and Jared Allen and Kony Ealy and Charles Johnson especially need to pick up their games.

Agree. Eli was about to get hit on his interception in the end zone. We needed more of that.

I guess according to some, our offense has to go out there and score 60 just for the defense to be effective. They have to to go out there and score every time just so the defense doesn't get "tired".

Man, if there is 30+ points put on the board, no matter how quickly they're scored, our "top 5" defense needs to hold. I'm not panicking yet, but it is concerning that our def has given up 3 huge leads.

It is that the team lost focus when they got up big late in the 4th quarter.  When that happens, you lose momentum and allow teams to make plays.  It is extremely hard to get that focus back during a game like this.

RR hit the nail on the head with his locker room speech.....it is a 60 minute game and you must be focused for 60 minutes.

I love the way this game played out.  It was a fantastic teaching and coaching moment.

Message to the team:

1.  When focused, you can blow teams off the field.

2.  When you lose focus, you can be beaten on any given Sunday

3.  This team has resolve and drives for the win....Panthers of the past would have folded.

NOTHING good comes from blow out wins heading into the playoffs.  If this team had finished off the Giants 35-7 or 42-7, after blowing out the Falcons 38-0, they start believing their press and thinking they are dominant.  Better to come away with the win and understand that you still have lots of work and improvement to make.

I was literally gonna post a thread on this, those guys have been awful.  The DE's are fuging useless right now.

It's time to sit CJ and Allen even more.  Tell them you're resting them for the playoffs.  I don't care.  When I see Delaire on inactives I'm sad.  Time to let the young guys get in there.   We were playing better before CJ came back, hate to say it.  That guy is gone.

It's true though, Davis had a horrible game, maybe one of the worst I've seen.  Finnegan is pretty terrible too.  I thought Tillman had a good game back though.

I agree though, we should have blitzing.  You're up 28, you bring the house all the time.  There's no reason not to.  You can take that risk at that point.   Rivera can say the players let up, but the fact is, the coaches did too.  Blame all around.  The good news is, it's not the playoffs, so we can try to fix some of this.
