Josh Norman on the Panthers next year? "Not my call."

Captain Morgan

Recommended Posts

Josh Norman says "not his call" what will happen with his future with Panthers. Says focus is on getting to Super Bowl.

Asked if he feels he deserves Defensive Player/Year, Josh Norman said yes because of how hard he's worked. But ... ultimate goal is SB.

It must be nice thinking about looking at a new contract as DFP of the Year. However, I love Josh and it keeps looking more likely we're going to lose him after a possible franchise year

Probably cheaper to tag him for 2 years than pay him long term. First tag is 13M and 2nd tag is around 15.6M. He is probably asking for 14M per yr which is the market for top CB. It is safer for the panthers since he is on a year to year basis rather than a 4 to 5 yr deal which will probably cost us cap space if we need to cut him in the back end of that contract.

can't we tag him 2 years in a row?  Then he'd be 30 and would have gotten between 25 and 30 mill from the two years I think

Yes we can.  It's wickedly expensive and unlikely to make financial sense, but possible and it is an option on the table.

Tagging a guy year to year for 2 seasons can make plenty of financial sense.

big elite contracts for highly emotional players without huge consistency of years of great play to their resume.....IS risky business.

I get people love Norman.  We all should for his play this year.  But there is still a difference between him and a Luke Kuechly IMO.

The guy wants to get paid, I can't argue with that. I hope Josh is a longterm Panther. However I feel like he may be holding onto a little bit of animosity from being in Ron's doghouse for so long.

Part of me is glad we did not get a contract in before the season started with him. I wonder if he would've still have balled out like he has if he already has been paid?  The guy has certainly been playing for a big-time contract and it's evident by his plays that he makes and the statements he makes.

    • Varying degrees all around but it starts at the top. That is where the buck stops. It has been 8 years of stupid, long before Morgan came back. Or Tillis was hired. Made it to the top of stupid mountain in 2023. Stayed in stupid limbo for a while, now we are prepping to scale the next mountain. In this case, I like those guys’ roster building better than what we have had so I am okay with them as our current pawns in the game of Bryce.
    • Don't let me gas him up too much, but I hear this and that...... I seen a wide body man with a quick burst, that's able to shed blocks and if extends his long arms its over. He tore up the OL in the senior, you seen about 10 plays and the dog walking OLman. There's other plays of him doing the same, just have to deal with fetus talking over the plays. Plus there's this-  https://x.com/PFF_College/status/2018385471068332410?lang=en     I hope he's ready, cause Id like to see him starting and doing his thang with dbrown, nic, and Phillips.
    • I mean there is relevance to that. But I think much of it has to do with the fact that he is clearly likeable. But does that translate to a coach taking his position to the next level like those that have had staying power for many years like Spoelstra? And not for nothing but does how much someone is liked even matter? Across leagues with the Panthers Ron Rivera and Marty Hurney were universally well liked by players. Dave Canales is very well liked. I say you are what your record says. And the record says you got your ass handed to you by a fellow expansion team in the Magic in a game that was over at halftime and that same team went toe to toe with our nemesis who has been handing us L's for over a year now. And if Bam doesn't get his leg swept by LaMelo do we even get past the Heat? Again. It just all boils down to personal standards. I think newer and younger fans will love this. I just want to actually win a real playoff game fam 🤷‍♂️
