To keep Bene outside and allow Norman to play 2016 here, I think the frugal and wise move is to draft his replacement and groom him for a season.  I am not against McClain as the nickel, but I would not mind trying to upgrade there as well.  Maybe the drafted CB could play inside---wish I understood the difference more.

We need depth at CB. I like Bene but injuries at that position cost us down the stretch.  I'm for an Amukamara signing and a draft pick.

Yes, we sure do.  I look at a player like Ted Williams who can't play defense.  We are paying him over a million dollars per season.  He led the special teams in penalties.  We need roster spots that have the potential to play CB.

I'm a bit surprised Teddy Williams wasn't among our cuts.   But of course, he still could be cut later in the year.

I wanted Dickson to be cut as well.  However, they may be waiting to see if they draft a TE who can block and catch.

Give me Anquan Boldin!

A strong handed possession guy with the ability to still get down field the odd time. If we had Boldin in place of Cotchery in the SB we win that game.

On 111 targets last season Boldin had only 2 drops. Cam needs another WR with reliable hands.

We still need another CB. Unless we're planning to take one at 31, I think we sign one today or later.

We just Tillman and Cortland.

It's a weak draft at CB. I don't think Gman/Ron is hoping to take one in the 2nd to play a major role. We ain't gonna get one that late in the 2nd.

Hayward or Prince + Weddle

I agree with this. I would love Casey Heyward in the slot. He's young and a real solid player. Not sure why he isn't drawing much interest. If they somehow managed to get Weddle and Heyward and go D-line round 1 and 2, I would be very happy with this team.

DE: Charles Johnson (30)

DT: Star Lotulelei (26)

DT: Kawann Short (27)

DE: Kony Ealy (24)

WLB: Thomas Davis (33)

MLB: Luke Kuechly (25)

SLB: Shaq Thompson (22)

CB: Josh Norman (28)

SS: Kurt Coleman (28)

FS: Eric Weddle (31)

NB: Casey Hayward (27)

CB: Bene Benwikere (25)

scary young defense

The longer we wait the lower the price.  Teams jump out and sign players left and right.  Philly 2 years or so ago. Vince Young's Dream Team and they were garbage.   Did the Giants hit a home run?  Maybe

In the end a home run is just one run.   I'd rather take a single and double because in the end I got another man in scoring position.

Oh hell, it is frustrating as crap to sit back and watch players that could be a difference maker go to other teams.   Let the smoke clear, let is slow down and then real negotiations start and we get that single and double and not only have talent but depth.  We don't go 15-1 without our depth.

A bunch of players left. Players that can contribute to this team:

Weddle

Okung

prince

Reggie Nelson (pair with Coleman; crazy duo)

Andre Smith

Boldin

Hayward

Fairley

Long

Thurman

Penn

Wallace

alfred Morris (would be great to pair up with stew, shouldn't cost too much)

Kearse

Leon Hall (vet)

Nolan Carroll (good in Miami)

R Randall

Zach Miller

Roddy White

Andre Johnson

Think much smaller than those names. Gino Gradkowski is the perfect example of what I was talking about.

Just from the aspect of his wife is crazy can almost guarantee we won't sign him. He got into so much hot water for his wife talking poo about the team and coaches on twitter.

Idk signing a guy like grimes allows us to focus fully on d line with safety as a close second

    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
